Wheel/tire width question

I have an '04 Ranger XL with OEM steel 6" wide rims. What are the widest rims the Ranger will accommodate without having to modify anything? I'm wanting two things, first and foremost more stoppage power/grip, and second, I'm planning on lowering the truck a couple inches for a better stance. I'm not wanting to go any larger on the diameter, just wider and possible larger diameter rims.

I'd like to put on 10" wide tires. Is that possible and what rim width would I need and will fit without interfering with the steering?

Thanks.

Go to this site and look up 2004 ranger tire sizes: https://tiresize.com/tires/Ford/Ranger/

Its not just about width, diameter is also in play because a larger diameter tire can rub when steering is turned all the way in one direction

You can go wider with off-set rims or spacers

Thank you! And yes, I know about diameter and am wanting to keep stock diameter. Once I know the maximum width and have a calculator that with provide the correct tire size to match my diameter.

You can use 4x4 tire width as long as diameter stays the same as 2WD

Lowering can cause body/fender rubbing with wider tires

Thanks Ron, that's exactly what I needed to know.! Concerning the lowering, I'm only thinking 2" or so which seems to be OK considering how much space I have now. With that said, I'll be putting the new wheels and tires on before I make that decision. I'm not in a big hurry to lower her.

Today I had 255 70 15 General Grabber HTS tires installed on my 2007 Ranger Sport 2 x 4. They look good and fill the wheel wells a lot better than the 225's that were on it. It is raining so I punched it rather aggressively and it didn't spin its wheels and in a panic stop it stopped without sliding. I ran it up on curbs under full turns without any rubbing. I am a happy camper now
Harry.

I am looking to go with 255/55 r18 on my 2006 mazda b4000 4x4. I have not seen pictures of this wheel and tire combo on this truck.

The wheels I am interested in are 18x9.5", with an offset of 12mm. My truck has the factory ride-height and suspension.

Here is the only photo (video) of a truck I could find with a similar setup. (not a ranger, but I love the look of the wheels/tires)

I can not imaging having a problem with clearances, but can anyone confirm running this setup?
