Icon4 TPS System on 07 Ranger

I have an 07 Ranger FX4 level 1 that has the factory Tire Pressure System on it. I want a set of Alcoa wheels for the truck. Can the monitors come off the old wheels and onto the new ones or where can I find new ones at a reasonable price? (wishful thinking?)

Sensors will carry over. You need new clamps, as the factory ones are not worm type.
Something like these would work on 15's
http://www.americanmuscle.com/universal-tpms-bands.html

I was lazy and left the sensors on my old set.

FYI: completely new sensors (mounting band included) is like $18 a wheel at americas tire. that isnt too much more than those new "bands" on that website.

the guys at americas tire told me that there was no way to transfer the old monitors to the new wheel... not sure if that was true or not now that i see that website selling just the bands to mount the sensor.

I am going to check into this about the senors hopefully I can find a Ford Tech that will tell me the truth. My only other concern is the brakes. If I am going to run into trouble mounting the Alcoas on my truck because I think I have 16 inch wheels and tires on my truck now I will check later today when I go out.

you will be fine running the Alcoas as they were a option on 06 or 07 plus and also came stock on all Level II's.

As for the TPMS do you have a light that turns on when you first turn the key on?

I don't know how Ford does it, if they sense motion or not. If they don't you may be able to take the sensors and place them in a sealed tube and pressurize it to 40 psi and place it under the seat. This will fool the computer into thinking you tires have the right pressure.

Well, I am a Ford Tech if that helps lol . Your current sensors will work, I guarantee it. Your Alcoa's will also fit no problem.

unless you have a "buddy" move the sensor, a tire shop probably wont touch it, being that it is against federal law to remove the senors

As far as fitting the brakes. I'm glad you brought that up!

Yes they will fit (they did on my 06 w/larger brakes).
You'll need to put the wheel on one of the fronts, and mark the zone that the calipar rides in. Just tell the shop that mounts them that you only have 3/8ths of an inch between the calipar and the rim in that area. So the weights will need to be really thin or not in that area. (I had to do this for my MT 15x8)

I work at discount tire and a ranger came in to get black steelies and we swapped the monitors over for him. Just call your local tire shop and figure it out real quick.

the only problem i see you running into is them wanting you to buy new ones because they also stuck on with double sided tape, which wouldnt be reusable

Ask any tire installer how they feel about dTPMS (Direct TPMS) and I doubt you'll find one that likes them. They are a royal PITA.

I work for Costco in the tire shop and it is against Federal Law to remove or tamper with the sensors. If we have a vehicle some in that is supposed to have sensors but for some reason they have been removed, we are not allowed to work on the vehicle. A lot of used cop cars are this way, because they change the tires so much on those cars.

Bingo

Also who ever mentioned putting them all in the spare, this is a very bad idea. If you need to use your spare you will destroy all of the sensors. If you have to get replacement sensors from the dealer they will run you for $60-80 a piece.

One last thing ALWAYS KEEP YOU VALVE STEM CAPS ON!!!! Water will get in to the stem and corrode the metal destroying the sensor.

yep and its TPMS. and they are a pain in the ***. havent broken one yet *knock on wood*

I feel keeping track of tire pressure is something you should be able to do by yourself. its just one more expensive thing that can go bad on all these new cars. Im shocked day after day how people come in with less than 15 psi in their tires, or come in with a 60psi spare on only running 20 psi. and people complain about gas mileage, underinflated tires is a great way to kill your gas mileage

Ive got you beat. Ive seen a 60psi spare with 7psi in it. The dougnut was shot and we didnt even fill it back up.

My favorite is when people drive in with a tire with 0psi and they want you to fix the leak and dont understand that the tire is so damaged that if its re inflated it will blow up. Morons.....
