Painting Rims

Painting Rims
I purchased 4 white wagon wheel rims (15x8) that came off of a 4x4 98 Ranger (I was told) and had 4 new Dunlop tires (can be seen here .
Since no one even bid on them, I decided I might as well keep them and use them as my winter wheels (the have much better traction for snow and I won't have to worry about the salt messing with my nice new stock chrome wheels) but I want to paint them.
I've painted interior/exterior pieces before, but never rims. Am I going to need to take the tires off or is there any way of doing it the way they are?
I plan on just painting them black to match my truck. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did the exact same thing as you. I sandblasted mine, because they had a lot of corrosion on them. But soon they were perfectly clean. Then I sprayed them with a few layers of black paint I bought at Napa. Then I sprayed a few layers of clear coat. Make sure you clean off the wheels with rubbing alcahol or something first though, so that theres no oils/dust.

I would powder coat them if they were mine, especially if they are going to be winter wheels. Powder coat 'em once and forget about it. If you're set on paint, use epoxy wheel paint after you sandblast and etch prime. Look in the phone book for powder coaters. Colors like white, black, etc. are usually really cheap. I recently had 4 wheels powder coated black for $60.

Hmmm well my dad fixes rims for a living and on my tracker we got some samurai rims for free with purchase of these mud tires....so we sanded them down front and back....sprayed the backs flat black and the fronts were painted with a #17 color code and a clear coat finish it looks sweet.....
now for you just sandem down and spray them up with some paint.....maybe some clear

Thanks guys. Probably just going to sand them down & paint the black. I just want something simple I can do without have to take off & remount the tires.
Still willing to sell them if anyones interested, wink wink.
I just hate have 450 bucks sitting in my garage and have to spend another 60 to use it.
