Newbie looking for help with tires for 09 ranger XLT 2wd
Hi everyone,
First off I'm sure this has all been answered before many times. I did browse thru the threads and got a lot of useful info from here.
I just bought a 2009 Ranger XLT, 2WD, supercab. It's got 225/70/15s on it and quite frankly looks... wimpy. I'd really like to get a more rugged and beefy look, without going over the top. I don't (and can't really with 2WD) go offloading. My life consists mostly of going to work on paved roads, and on my days off I go fishing and kayaking and hiking, frequently going off pavement but not on any super muddy or sandy areas.
I basically want to fill the gap in my wheel well, have my truck be a bit higher up (it's currently lower than my last car, 96 2dr Toyota Rav4) which is just unacceptable to me lol.
I found the thread listing the maximum sizes, and I quote
"15x7 stock suspension - 215x75x15, 235x75x15, 235x60x15, 30x9.5x15, 31x10.5x15(may need to trim)"
But I just wanted to verify if anyone had the exact same model as mine and had upped the tire size, what they did, and if they have pics of it before and after? I was thinking of 235/75/15 but on the tire calculator (https://tiresize.com/calculator/) that doesn't seem to be as big as the 30x9.5x15 listed in that list? I apologize for my ignorance.
I also might do a very small body lift like 1" or 2", especially if a tire I want is JUST barely too big or something.
Any help would be appreciated, the folks at the various tire places around here haven't been too much help, they mostly just want me to tell them exactly what I want and not ask any questions.
Quick recap
Want to fill the gap in the wheel well, raise the height of the truck a bit, more rugged look (was looking at BFG TA KO2s) and not rub
Any images to help me get a visual what I can expect it to look like after going with the biggest size I can stock would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum
225/70/15 tire = 27.4" diameter
If you got 29.4" tire it would raise you up 1", not 2"
Going with taller tires is not a problem in the back, only the front, because the front tires turn side to side and that is when they will rub the fenders.
So have a friend turn the tires while you find the CLOSEST point between current tire and fender, inner and/or outer, front of tire and back of tire
Measure that SHORTEST distance
If it is 2" then you can get 4" taller tire, so 27.4" to 31.4"
You may have to go to 16" wheels
