comparrison in size of wheel/tire combo

Heres the scoop. I have found the rims I wanna get, BUT, they only come in 17X9 with my bolt pattern.No problem there, but I am getting 265s (32) tire size and my question is how much different is the width from a 265/75-17 to a 265/70-17. I have 75 width now on my 16's, but Ill be upgrading to a 17 and need different tires. I know it cant be much but idk if it will be ider or not. Plus, will it fit fine on a 9 inch wide rim? Thanx.

There's no difference in width between a 265/75 and a 265/70. The "265" is a measure of how many millimeters across the tread (shoulder to shoulder) and the "65" is the % of the width (265) that the sidewall is high. (bead to shoulder).

You will need to go to a 285/70/17 (33) if you are going to run 9" wide wheels. 265 series tires recommend that you don't run them on any wider than a 8-8.5" wheel...

I meant the 75 and 70 part, not the 265. I meant differance in width. I cant get 285's unless I lift the truck. So far all I have done was to crank the t-bars, then was planning on getting 265/75-16's until; I found the rims I want but they dont make a 16 incher in my bolt pattern. They dont reccommend the 265/70-17's on a 9 inch rim, but could it be done?

There is no difference in width. A 265/70 is 265mm wide, and a 265/75 is 265 mm wide.

i wouldnt do it, you wont have very much side wall.. and it will be easier to break a bead.

285s were what, 11-1150? so 265 has to be around 9? yea thats bad for a 9" wheel

I don't mean to be an ***:

265mm = 10.433"
285mm = 11.22"

I run 265/75r16 on my stock rim, though I don't know how wide it is.

well it was a rough estimate..

and your stock rim is 16x7, not x9

rule of thumb is at least 2" wider tire than the wheel i believe, it CAN be done, but i would go with a wider tire if i were you

Ok, Would a 275 work? Would that be wide enough? I REALLY want these wheels bad enough. I dont want to go too wide cuz it IS my daily driver AND I have kinda descent gas mileage right now and yeah.

why not do this.. either buy the appropriate size rims for the size of tires you want or spend the money to get a lift and buy bigger tires with those rims?? honestly you're going to spend a lot more money if you want them 17x9's. id stick with the 16's with the 265's. why spend all the money on those rims, just for them to be ruined after awhile? and the tires would be damaged too. id rethink the rims you want. good luck.

^^ Descent is around 20 or 22 but I cruise anymore because I cant afford anymore speeding tickets. I want these rims because they are not that expensive, and they are awesome, so yeah. If thats what I want then Im gonna try to get em. Plus I dont offroad much so not much damage. SO, if I can do it and it would work then it would look wicked, so yeah. Thanx
