Biggest Tire Size on Stock Platform

Okay, I have a 2005 Ford Ranger FX4 V6. Tires on it now are P255/70R16. I need new tires and was wondering what is the biggest tire that I could put on that will not create any issues? No lift or body lift on the truck, it is the same as when it rolled off the lot. Thanks for the help!

I seen in that post that you can run 33-10.5-15's with just a T-bar crank. My question is has anyone done this and if so are there any pics?

with FX4s you can without any trimming... i *think* the 4x4 and edges need some trimming.... but ill dig up those pics right now

FX4's, XLT 4x4, & Edge 4x4 have NO, i repeat NO height difference...there is NO suspension difference except for the FX4 has Bilstein shocks....

You can't upgrade without any issues. You deffinately won't rub with 265/75/16, but you're speedo will be off a tad if you change your stock tire size. I'm sure you knew this but no issues won't happen.

Maybe yours was reflashed or recaliberated. It isn't possible to just switch tire sizes and it to be the same. Especially going from stock to 33s.

Check out these links. Just search and you'll find out that your speedo will be off.

Here is a calculator to better explain.

I'm not trying to argue and I'm not going to. I'm just stating facts and my own personal experiences.

I went from stock 31" to 33" and mine is off by the 6% you would expect. Maybe newer rangers don't do it.

well..mine is dead on according to cops radar...no flash or program. Mabey the speedo runs off the driveshaft so it dont matter what size tire you have

your speedo doesn't work off the driveshaft....yours is setup the same way all the other '03s are.....do a search in Bob's (rwenzig) thread on his 5.0 swap or Wayne's (Graniteguy) thread on his tranny swap. The speed comes off the VSS....the VSS is located in the rear diff i think.....it counts the rotations of the ring gear....which will be off with larger tires and stock gearing or even larger gearing.....

i know in '97 and older Rangers the speed comes off a gear in the t-case or transmission......

My speedo was fast from the factory. Its now dead on at 40mph (radar verified) but reads slow at speeds higher than that. Went from 245/75/16 to 33x10.50x15.

With a 33" tire on stock suspension your going to need to crank the torsion bars and trim some.

You probably wont be able to get bigger than a 265/75 as for raising the t-bars it will f your truck up.
