33x12.5x15 on 15x8

Very simple. Can a 33x12.5x15 tire be mounted onto a 15x8 wheel successfully and used without problems?

I was told yesterday it couldn't but some dude at a Tires Plus that was probably 6 months into having his license, but I'm pretty sure I've seen people on here do it. I'm getting a spare and just wondering if I have to go hunting for a 15x10 wheel with the 5 lug pattern in a junkyard somewhere or if I can simply use 1 of my old 15x8 stocker wheels.

yep you can fit a 12.5 wide tire on a 8" rim.. thats my current setup. your stock rim should be 15x7 tho not 15x8

a 15x8 is a VERY popular wheel for a 33x12.50x15 tire.....

here is a picture of my truck with 15x8 Eagle Alloys wrapped with BFG A/T's....

i ran them like that for 44,000 miles with absolutely NO problem.....the guy at Tires Plus is an idiot...

he is thinking that a stock wheel is a 15x8.......your stock wheels are 15x7....or 16x7 if you had 16" wheels from the factory...

4.5"? and i bet you rub constantly dont ya......4.5" is a little excessive....you should have 3 5/8" to 3 3/4" of backspacing....heck the stock wheels only have 4".....

Could have swore my stockers were 15x8's.... you guys are more then likely right though. I'm running 15x10's on my 33"s right now, but figured it's bout time I get a full size spare. So I'm just seeing if I can scrounge up a free wheel instead of having to buy that as well.

I'm not saying they won't, but aren't you going to be putting a lot more pressure on the sidewalls at that point? I guess because it's only a spare it doesn't matter as much.

Tire shops always give ya funny results, I was told that my steel wheels weren't rated to handle anything over a 32" tall tire and he said my setup was very 'unsafe'

you got to realize, the tire place is going to basically play it safe all the way around. If theres even a remote chance that ANYTHING could happen, im sure they'd say something in a liability situation.. still he's probably an iddiot ricer kid..

and don't stereotype teenagers, i've surprised ALOT of people with my experience and knowledge, even though i turned 16 last june. Considering some kids out there arent iddiots, though few and far between, do count still.. no harm no foul, im not here to start anything, i just think stereotyping is a major issue with people. Give everybody a fair chance, and once they've proven there iddiocy, role with it at that

Yeah I know. Hell I'm only 23. And far from being any sort of creditable source on cars/trucks. Just irritated me when he told me that the biggest tire you could mount on a 15x8" wheel was a 32" tire. Oh well... I'll find somewhere to get the thing mounted on a 15x7.

Hell i went to a 4x4 place and got a new 15x8 crager rim, with a 33x12.5 x-terra tire....

If its just a spare who cares, i would even get a 15x7 so its not as big....

Mine takes up almost my whole bed...

Yeah. Think I'm just gonna use a stocker 15x7 wheel and look for a cheap used 33x12.5x15 tire somewhere... anyway thanks for all the advice guys. Much appreciated.

what YOU should realize and ANY repituble tire place should realize is that most tires that are 12.50 wide are recommended on a 8" wheel......

Tires are given a recommended wheel size by the manufacturer. BFG All-Terrains, for example, in a 33x12.50x15 size are recommended by BFG to be mounted on a wheel with width between 8" and 10". Anything outside those widths could lead to different problems.

But yeah, the guy at Tires plus is an idiot. I ran 33x12.5s on 15x8 wheels for quite some time, both with and without a lift.

a guy at discount tires said the 285/75's wouldnt fit w/o any lift, and would rub a lot w/ the 3"bl..

then i think they said 35's wouldnt fit w/ just the BL? i have seen it done...

how much do the tires stick out with the 15x8s on the 12.50s?
