20" rims with 31" terra grappler tires????

I have a 94 splash ex-cab 4x4
looking to see if anyone knows if I will be able to fit these rims and tires on my stock suspension:285/50/20 nitto terra grapplers which are 31.22 inches by 11.42 wide
the wheels are 20x8.5 witha +35 offset.
I dont want to lift much if not needed. more of an on road cruiser, with occoaisional light trail duty so rubbing at the extremes of suspension travel is OK.
Not interested in a body lift either, will do coils and new leafs out back worst case.

Any one have some 1st hand knowledge?

Ps will be doing a 5.0 swap later this yr and need to know if that will require new springs to prevent rubbing then due to the weight

If it has the Torsion bar suspension, I do beleive you can crank the t-bars and it should fit. I have an edge and you can see what my cranked t-bars and 31's look like.

Oh, yeah. you have I-beams, don't you?

Why would you put such heavy, expensive wheels on?

looks. like i mentioned i am nhot an offroader. I bought this truck for the sole intention of a v-8 swap and the ability to keep the 4x4. i am not into big lifts nor massive offroad tires. I did like this set up though. I have an 01 lincoln ls (dailey driver)with 20" rims on it as well and it hasnt lost a bit of zip nor stopping distance, besides, I plan on buying forged wheels which are lighter (ie; centerline has a nice site that explains this). i also plan to do a 95+ front brake upgrade and a rear disc swap as well

however most guys are only using a 19+ offset vs. a 35+ on mine

I can't imagine why 4x4 would apeal to you if you aren't off-roading. If you're after speed or street performance the 4x4 and jumbo wheels are just going to be dead weight slowing you down.. And I don't see how 4x4 helps w/ looks.. But hey, to each their own!

Think of the benefits of racing with traction. 4WD, no 2 wheel peel.

Or maybe he didn't buy his truck for offroading. I got my 2wd edge and i was gonna do the big wheels and lifted thing, but I started offroading with it and now i won't. I would have got a 4x4 if there was one available.

That part-time 4WD system won't last long if he's using it on the street.. Especially w/ nice wide grippy tires.

I'll hold ya to that man. Prove me one instance where someone has had a problem because of racing with 4WD. Yup, you're "assuming" that it would have problems. Maybe you should talk to all the 5.0 *AWD* explorers who have the same front axle and seem to not be destorying their front axle. It'll make no difference. Because all explorer 5.0 4wds are already the same setup.

AWD is totally different from the normal 4wd... awd has a center differential
so the tires can all turn at their own speed without needing to slip.

BINGO nail on the head.

Snow and 2wd pick-ups dont mix so well.
that and I want the "option" to take it somewhat off the beaten path, just not regularly.
