What Shocks Do you Feel are the Best?

Whats going on guys? New to the board, looks like a great ranger forum. Anyways, im driving a 01' edge ranger, 2wd, with a spindle + body lift, on 33's....I'm looking for some good Shocks, people have recommend me getting Bilstein 5100's, i went to a couple offroad places there quoting me $89/per shock for the 5100's, wondering if anyone on these boards bought the 5100's for the lifted edge ranger for a better price than the $89 per, or is that going rate? if so can you supply url? Thanks

i recently installed Edlebrock IAS shocks on my dads 95 f150 and they ride excellent.

i have rancho rs5000s on my 93 f150 and they are ok but not the best.

not exactly what u are looking for review wise but its a start.

Bilsteins are pricey. But well worth it. I just got set installed on mine.

The equivalent to Bilsteins in my opinion would be Rancho RS5000, I have had both and they are pretty close.

Bilsteins are generally regarded as the best, but you'll pay for the quality. I've heard great things about the adjustable Rancho shocks also. I think they're more than $89 a piece though. I think $89 for 5100s is pretty good. Did you try using Froogle?

Bilstein is top-end stuff. Can't go wrong there. Anything else is preference really

Well I liked my Edelbrock performer IAS shocks... except...
the rubber bushings up front rotted after 18monthes... free replacement...
The rubber bushings out back.. just noticed are gone ~~26monthes.

Oh and I blew the fronts in wharton last weekend and I was going EASIER
than everyone else. Summit racing said they would give me credit towards
something else.. I am NOT putting a 3rd pair of IAS on the front .. front shocks suck to put on in a parking lot!!!

I was just doing some research on shocks available for rangers (only looked at the ranchos so far)...I have the RSX shocks. But what I was looking at was Ranchos tech data on their shocks and the replacement RSX shocks as well as any of the Rancho replacement shocks for the front only have about 4.5" of travel I havent cycled the suspension, but I thought the front could get close to 7"? Or was that only after the camburg upper arms?

No real warning... the truck now rides like a '79 ford ltd on concrete wheels...
IE Sways like a boat and bounces about 10x on each bump.

The way to tell if the rubber bushings are gone is twofold.
1) if the truck seems to bump twice over each pothole (hard to describe)
basically its extra play so the bottom of the shock has ~~ 1/4" of slop
2) take off the wheel and pry on the bottom of the shock against its bushing.

I guess these are poly bushings? all I know is mine were toast.
I am doing the back but the front aint no fun in a parking lot with minimal tools.
So its off to the tire shop for 40$ to install the fronts.
(they are fixing my bad pass. rear brake, rotating and balancing the tires too)
probably cost about 50$ total.. they hook me up.

Oh and I just noticed today my fan clutch seems to stay engaged ALOT.
So the E-fan mod might be soon if i start losing gas mileage.

Summit is selling bilsteins now for 65$ each I wanted those but they arent available till aug 14... and the truck isnt to safe to drive so I sprang for
rancho 9000x's they were 89.99ea but I'll get 74.95 back ea from the old ones.

I really liked those D. Except this would be my 3rd pair on the front.. and second on the back... they are only 2yr old (I had summit look up the invoice tonight for my return) origional fronts lasted about 18monthes before the bushings were gone TOP and bottom. The rears did last 2 years...
Then I blew the replacement fronts last weekend at wharton and as I am sure neil or others would attest I was going SLOWER than everyone else over the mini whoops.
