Help: How to remove/install leaf spring hanger

I was wondering if anyone had a how to on replacing the rear leaf spring hangers for a 99 Ranger. Mine are looking bad and I know i will get owned if I take it to a shop. I'm pretty much learning how to fix stuff as it breaks so every little bit of help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I called around and every place wants about $530 to do it. The brackets are only $16 at autozone. Is the labor that intense to warrant almost $500 in labor costs? They are really rusted and cracked. Will I be safe driving it still or will they drop and drag on the ground?

remove bed, unbolt shackle, grind off rivets holding the hanger, hammer them out, remove, and get some grade 8 hardware to reinstall the new ones and bolt 'em in

Does is matter how you hang the shackles? Could not find anything that said if the open end of the shackle faces the front or the back of the truck. thanks.

if you put them up like mine are, you will get a 2" drop. rotate them 180* and it's stock.

Mine are on the stock way. My question was about what way the shackle should face. one side is open and the other isnt. Should the open side face front or back? I couldnt tell when i removed mine because they were so rusty and bent up. Cool pic though.

u need the open facing the tord the front it give the leaf spring clearnce to move normaly if u put it tord the back and flex up the rear suspension it will in time rip the metal on the shackle
sounds like u did it the right way

this is right also open tord the front
if u have the hanger on the other way u just flip the shakle over and its still ok
