FL/GA guys...anyone up to the task? Simple SFA (D30 leaf setup)
#27
yea...thats what I'm saying
what parts exactly do you have for the 30...I mean if you had everything and it was just "weld on" so to speak...then I'd do coils. Problem I'm getting at is I don't want to trial and error 50 times on the bends of the coil buckets and placement, etc.
What size are the procomp leafs? I want about 2-4" higher than I am right now after SFA in both front and rear (acutlaly about 3 in front 4 in rear)
I got the 35's :) and if that 30 is 5 on 4.5 (which I am assuming), then it's all good!
I just am curious as to what parts you have for the 30, just LMK via PM or w/e and price

ive got the D30 that has 4.56s in the axle now but have 4.88s in the garage, few extra seals, and bearings, it has a panhard which you wnt need, has drag link and has tie rod thats it
it is 5 on 4.5 which is the ranger lug
the procomp leafs are like a 7" lift for a ranger gotta do the chevy swap (moving front hanger forward)
I ran the springs with the RCD and beltech and sat level in the front where i had bout 6" of lift up there and you dnt have to run blocks -- you will have to use the stock ubolts and plates cuz the ones i have are for the explorer rear and has a bigger tube so they wont work on stock 8.8
ill pm you with a price for axle and springs

well I have about as much lift as the RCD in the front righ tnow...and I have the cap...so I'm thinking that it would sit level.
Even if all else fails and I DON"T get the axle from you, I'll probably end up getting the springs, I need some new rears BADLY.
How would it sit with the chevy shackle? I don't have my stocker...

run those rear spring evan has and chevy shackles. then run that D30
the only thing wrong with that D30 is it needs a new pan hard mount. i have one laying around that i can ship, i meant to give it to evan but he changed his plans so i figured no need in wasting shipping costs.
if i get coil overs then i will have my coils for sale. someone wants my upper tube but i would bend new ones for ya.
so all you would need is a frame mount which you can buy. i made one but ballistic fab makes one just like what i made, just needs welded.
i am running shy on vacation, but if i had some i would drive my tools down and help ya if you paid for my fuel and hotel! lol

I still am weary about coils...but I may give it a shot.
either way I have to get new rear springs, so I think i'm jumping on that. And d30 with leafs is the way I *want* to do it...but we shall see.
I'm set on leafs because there is a lot less that can go wrong with leafs than coils...and eventually it's going to be a lot bigger, and I am not wanting to run coils at that time, I want it to be leafs.
Either way...gotta do something!!!

I will have plenty of money come the new year. I'm still ff/medic training but after that I will pay for fuel hotel and then some...

alright let me know. thing about coils is they are super soft and it will like to sway a bit more. if you ran some anti-rocks that would fix that problem.
leaf springs dont have that much of an issue. id be up for either, but if you do leafs get zainyD's waggy axle that is already done correctly!
if i did 2.5 ton id do coilsovers

I have a 220 about 10ft or so from the garage...so we are set.
I like how walts is setup the most. Nice simple solid leaf setup about 2" higher than I am right now, maybe 3-4 depending.
I would like to do coils...but at the same time I really don't want to...I've ridden in ryan morans truck with leafs...and it wasn't bad at all. I'm not sure exactly WHY I want leafs...but i do :)
If you were coming down here I'd pickup that axle from zainy for sure. I definetly won't have enough $ to take care of your expenses until january/feb, but at that time I'd have all the parts already at that time.
I want to run the 44 for strength...I'm just worried about it being tooooo wide.

Straight up...mine is a mall crawler! I got an atv, and it's a ****ty excuse for not wheeling my truck...but I'd rather not mud my truck. Trails...fine I'll trail ride all day...mud...not in the truck!

the axle wont be too wide. trust me. its between mine and a D30, actually its the same as a D30 maybe an inch wider.
i like Kevins setup, I am sure we can do the same pretty easy.
January-Feb is fine with me, its always dang cold and im ready to get out of here.
Like I said, I will be more than happy to come down if you cover my hotel and gas. Food I can handle :) Id say a good 4-5 days MAX and it should be good.
I graduate in December, so I know I wont have time for it before then.
There are a few things that I would like to make sure you have... or I would like to order them and make sure its all correct.
1 is the steering box
2 the steering shaft (takes 3 different shafts to mate up)
3 the steering line and fittings.
IMO those are the easiest things to goof up.
We may need to buy a grinder, ive got 2 but they arent mine, i just use them. LOL
You need to find out what you are doing with the steering and spring over. i think there are some issues. so Z link? or what? unless you get chevy knuckles with high steer.
brackets and hangers shouldnt be bad, just contact Kevin (2002FX4) and see where he bought his.
I will study his build and make sure I am on the same page.

98+ trucks have so much crap to remove from the frame, then it takes almost a day just grinding it clean! then another day on the steering!

Grinder...no problem. I'll either buy or borrow.
I really would like to emulate 2002fx4's build. At that point (probably feb) I will be looking to run the 37-38's (depending on price and availability, etc)...who knows...maybe even a *gasp* bogger
I have to say every truck I've seen built was built around the *goal* tire size. Mine is 37-38. My 3.0 can't handle a 40. I also want to stick with 4.88 gears and probably the same rear end I have right now.
As for an axle, I do NEED HPd44, but zainys is for coils...and i really don't want to mess with that. I will see what I can get down here.
No problem ordering the parts you listed. Just LMK where and how much. If you can get with kevin and see what exactly I need, that would be great. It will make more sense to you than it will to me.
Steven, I'm going one step at a time, SFA first and work out the kinks...then later the 4x4, I hate to say it but I might stick w/ an auto I haven't been having any problems, and it's a heck of a lot easier towing.
