i dont know anything about the monroe shocks... but the chances are that they're quite a bit stiffer than factory. so... stiffer --> "bouncier"
your stock shocks may have been blown, too, adding to the squishyness.
i experienced the same thing when i put on my ranchos. i just got used to it, i guess.

Your basically using a shock that was designed for touring sedans. I've used the same shocks you mention on several of my trucks and they have all been a great add.
Your probably just used to the worn shocks and now that they are replaced, everything rides differently.
If the vehical has ' float ' when goint onto a bridge off an incline or something to that effect, you MIGHT want to check your other suspension hardware. I had float and moved up a stiffness in torsion bars in front and yanked a leaf in back. Fixed it without any drawbacks in ride quality.
