Timing belt--is it possible...

Is it possible that a timing belt can deteriorate and stretch enough that it can start to affect valve timing without skipping a tooth or breaking? The reason I ask is that I just replaced my timing belt earlier this week (and changed nothing else), and I swear it runs better! The old belt was intact and all timing marks lined up, but it really seems to run better with the new belt. Is that possible, or is it all in my head?

Did you ever get an answer for it?

No. I actually don't even own the truck anymore, but I would still like to know.

Yes, a stretched belt can lower compression, so will lower power
