hey my friend has a 98 ford ranger 2.5 5 speed. the problem he is having just started this afternoon, and it seems that when he goes around the corner the whole truck chatters and the steering wheel shakes bad, and gets a litte more stiff.

any one have any idea what the problem could be?

Air in the Power Steering fluid system. Has he lifted the truck off the ground (front) and turned the steering wheel, or turned the wheel while the truck was on the ground and the engine was OFF?

If he will lift the front end up and work the wheel back and forth a bunch of times, it will work most of the air out of the lines.

I'd recommend your friend take his truck in to a Qualified Shop and have them check it over. If it’s do to loose or damaged front end parts it could be dangerous for him to continue to drive it until this is checked.

Yeah, if it is anything but air in the power steering lines it could be a big hazzard. The air in the lines would work itself out in a few miles and it wouldnt be an issue anymore. I agree with Rev and say have him get it checked out.
