Correct Fuel Tank Location/85 Ranger

Was doing a little snoopin' around in my newly acquired Ranger and low & behold it appears that back in the day the fuel tank was located either behind the seat or underneath the cab. It's currently located on the drivers side, under the bed. The area that I've circled in white, appears to be the wiring for the fuel guage sending unit at one time. Can anyone confirm this and also the correct location for the fuel tank for this year Ranger. Thanks in advance.

All manufacturers stopped putting the fuel tanks behind the seats in the mid '70s.
When the trucks were hit in the driver's side of the cab , the inlet hoses would rupture , spraying gas all over the driver.
Since then all truck tanks are located under the bed.

Thanks, Ken for your response. I should trace this bit of wiring down towards the rear and see where it goes.
