Common Problems With The 2.3

I just bought a wrecked a 97 with the 2.3. It has roughly 106k on it. The ole motor is sound. Its a great truck. What are some common issues with these little motors, and trucks? I will be traveling in it ALOT. Thanks.

Never really heard of any "common" problems with the 2.3s. really a bullit-proof little motor. Just keep the oil changed, and be sure to change the spark plugs at 100,000 miles. lol

consider doing a timing belt to it because it has 106k on it. i did mine at 120k. but really other than basic upkeep there is no really "common" problems except the fuel gague sensor going out so that u wont have a fuel gague. but with regular scheduled matinance done correctly you should not have a issue going past 200k.

x2 on the timing belt.
And spray a bunch of WD40 in the door latch to prevent the annoying 'Why won't my dome light go off' problem.

I vote give it a SeaFoam treatment, just to de-carbon the engine!

125k on mine, and aside from the usual stuff (plugs, clutch, ball joints pretty soon) its been pretty good, and I drive 600 miles every other weekend.

Assuming the motor is good, keep an eye on the rust underneath, especially if its been in an area that gets some snow. Ive had to replace the leaf spring shackles, my spare time mount broke cause of rust, and the radiator mounts rusted out. it was never anything major, but just some things to keep an eye on.
