2000 ranger way high idle. please help!!!!
I have a 2000 ranger 4 banger. I have replaced the air idle control valve 4 times now. 3 times with a part from o'reileys and the last one last year was the motorcraft. while driving when it's cold out it runs great. as soon as it gets over 50 degrees out bam. idle runs real high while driving and doesn't come down til i stop completely. each time i've replaced it it worked good for 4 or 5 months. everyone tells me air idle control valve but it keeps happening. please help. it's driving me crazy. wearing real hard on my brakes and can't be good on the motor. 49,000 miles on it. 5 speed stick.

I had the same problem. I have the same truck as you as well. what I did was I first cleaned my Throttle body. then I replaced my plugs then I cleaned my IAC. As for me non of this worked but then last time I was looking for vacuum leaks I saw that the TPS wiring was super lose. I shoved it back down about a good inch and everything was fixed for me. I guess you could look at that and check it out. If that isn't it then I'm sorry I couldn't be much more help.
