2000 Ranger 2.5L trouble code p0301 and p0171
#4
Yes, +1 ^^^
P0301 means #1 cylinder is misfiring
P0171 means Lean exhaust seen so computer added more fuel<<< this code comes from the Misfire
An O2 sensor only sees Oxygen in the exhaust, not fuel, Lean code means there was too much oxygen, so P0171
If a cylinder misfires then NO Oxygen was burned up like when a cylinder fires, so that oxygen is dumped into the exhaust pipe and O2 sees too much oxygen, P0171
If you don't want to waste more time and money I would do a compression test on the 4 cylinders, if #1 is lower than 2, 3 and 4 then no amount of time and money spent on the outside will help
Once a compression issue is taken off the table you can look at spark or fuel
