2.5L making a clicking noise?

I changed my oil today and my truck started making a lifter noise. Like a clicking at idle that will speed up as you rev up then go away. Nothing fell into the motor. I don't know what the deal is. My 2.5L has 169,300 miles on it. Always have used 5W-30 like it says but used Valvoline this time instead of Castrol. Wouldn't think that would matter.

Here is a video I took but I don't think you can hear it.

I see. My dad and I looked at it a few minutes ago and we can't pin point it. But if it is valve, think it would be easiest to just get a lower mileage head at the junkyard? I found a complete 2.5L with 79,000 miles on it for $450.

To mee it sounds like a loose rocker arm. It is really hard to tell with the video. Does it miss?????

Have you listened with a screwdirver to valve cover to see if the noise is coming from the valve train? IF it is a lifter remove the valve cover and inspect valve train before replacing engine.

Just curious if you removed the serpentine belt and started the engine for a sshort period of time to make sure it is not something else??

Could it be a timing belt issue. Have you ever changed the timing belt???

Timing belt is a few years old so I would hope its good.

It kinda misses when you just barely touch the gas but other than that it runs great.

I have not listened to the valve cover. I may take it off and see if the rocker is loose.

Have you checked for any soft codes by chance?

I haav seen with my laptop software codes that are present but have not set the Chenk Engine Lite. Possibly there is a code for a misfire that is intermitentent so it doesn't set the light. Worth checking if you can.

Can I get this software somewhere for free? I have a scan gauge but it just shows check engine light codes but the end of it looks like an ethernet cable.

I would think scan gauge should show Pending codes. (SOrry I shhould have said Pending Codes earlier)

The software that I have I paid $100 for 2 years ago. Not sure if there is any software available for free like it althoughh I did read that someone got a cable and was able to download software on his phone I believe, if I find it again I will post.

I have had this same issue on two different 98's with the 2.5's. On both engines it was from a loose rocker arm, never actually fixed it though cause it never game me any problems
