1989 ranger 4 cyl bogging no power

hello all this is my second post, you were all so great and quick with the first, my buddy has a 1989 ranger with the 4 cylinder and that double spark setup, what could possibly be the problem with this thing? it bogs and acts like it has no power, stalls when you let the rpms go too low, and runs terrible at idle, it only does it when it gets warm and sometimes if you turn the key off then on it will be okay for a little while longer, we changed the fuel filter but it seems to be a spark issue to me. is it possible that the intake coil pack is bad (the one on the drivers side)? because if i disconnect it it doesnt make any difference in how it runs, someone else said that the ign module controls both coils and that could be bad? any ideas send me on the right direction, the kids a real good friend and helps me whenever he can so hopefully i can do the same and figure this one out, ive been working on cars for almost 7 years and this one really is stumping me! i dont wanna just throw parts at it hopefully someone had this same problem Thanks in advance

Have you checked the timing?

umm, i'd check tps, that can cause issues with stalling and trouble pulling out, clean the throttly body and intake manifold, replace ari-filter if it wasn't already, check and or replace catyletic converter, clean out the egr like stuart said, the coild packs are either working or not, and to check you if its firing just hook up a timing light and if will flash if its firing, if its timing its a computer issue, and i would imagine that it would throw a code at you. though if it was a timing issue or spark issue it would run rough, it sounds to me more like an intake / exauste issue since its booging down and accelerating and ect. that it sounds like the engine is constricted. my 89 2.3 was acting strange kinda like that too, wxcept mostliy in the morning, i would idle bad and try to stall and i wuld have to give it gas like crazy to pull out of my parking spon on my drive way and the acceleration was a little bad and idled high sometimes, i scanned it and it was the throttle posision sensor.

TPS could do it.

Check the timing, probabaly not the timing though.

Could be a clogged cat.

My 2.3 Turbo coupe did the exact same, plus a little black smoke, and after going over the whole thing, not thinking of exhaust I decided to throw straight pipes on and found a insanely plugged cat.

So no cats for me, ever ever again. too much of a pain. lol

you can unplug the coils one at a time and they will stay running 1 is on the compression stroke and the other is on the exhaust stroke for admissions it sounds like it's your idle air control

Wrong, they both fire on both strokes.
