Independence Day wheelin' at Brown's Camp(56k stay the hell away)
Hey...went wheelin' today up at Brown's Camp in the Tillamook National Forest here in Oregon. Finally got to test out the double lift and 35's. And I must say, i'm very impressed with it for what it is. Open front and rear and good tires.
But....
I have confirmed my fears...wheelin' in 4low effin' sucks with the following combo: 4.0L SOHC, 5spd manual, 35's, and stock 4.10's. It's just geared WAY too high......absolutely sucks on the rocks espicially. That being said, yes, I'm going for a gear swap...also explorer rear swap as well.
Went up with a few buddy's of mine, ones got the tow rig, the other has the wheeler......Datsun with a chevy D44/D60 combo, small block chev, th350, locked front and rear, full hydraulic steering, more....broke down alot.......this was pretty much kind of a shake down run, as was mine.
Mine was a beautiful runner...no problems except you'll find out what happend if you scroll down.... The datsun on the other hand....alternator issues, radiatior hose issues, the normal ujoint issues, was running 1 wheel peel for a while. Broke a front axle shaft. Normal crap.
Lots of other rigs up there....
LOTS of pics....
passenger side outer ujoint cap coming out on us....eventually snapped the shaft
This thing was COOL! Buick GNX Turbo6 w/ power goodies, and 4whl steering...
Check out that leaf.....
Check out that block...
This is where it gets weird....just driving along, hitting potholes like normal, but one of them made the air bag decide to go off! Weirdest thing. It got it on my nose and breast plate. Lil burn on the backside of the wrist(near the veins). No biggie, but just seriously freaked me out! Pulled the driver pretensioner as well...so.....$$ here i come. lol.
Me in my temporary state of shock.........but i held in there, immediately after it happened, whipped out the toolbox, got hte 8mm and pulled the bag.
And parting with my new bumper ornament...

That Yota's badass! Reminds me of my buddy Cassidy's old Yota that he totalled on Jenny Creek/Rollins Pass last summer. He had done a D44 swap running 35's and 4.56 gears. It was pretty sweet, and actually got me thinking about an older Yota prior to looking for a more solid DD/trail pig in my Ranger
Shane, like I mentioned earlier over AIM, I'll call Western Auto Recyclers and see if the bag is popped on that 01 I pulled my window off of. If so, I'll get my boss to help me pull it one day as to not pop that one while pulling it.

Thanks guys for the compliments. Unfortunately, there wern't many wheelin' pics taken. Some of the trails were just sooo damn tight. Remember austin powers with the buggy in the hallway? well...that was me in between alot of those trees. lol.
I will be going back, but i'll be locked and geared properly, likely 4.88's. Now I REALLY can't wait for the winter snow trips!
RightWingStuff.com is where i picked up those decals. Also got theses....
Haha....he was an old dude...like 60. lol.

I found it quite HALARIOUS that there were all these hacked up yota's, all solid axle, all locked, some dual cases, and here i was in this shiny new ranger. lol....keeping right with them too! Except for those big *** rocks....ranger DEFINATELY wouldn't have been able to do it. Other than that, I was keepin' up with them. Very suprised in the double lift and mtr's.
