Server went offline earlier this evening. KLC was alerted and called me. We rallied, got a 3rd person involved and managed to bring the site back online working.
The downside is we lost the last 6 days of posts, threads, users and attachments.

The damage was enough that I believe we lost more attachments as well as the drive they were stored on went south. We have been able to save a ton but its intermittent and random at best.

The down time was an hour and the last hour I have been surfing, reading and trying to make sure all is working.

What to expect... missing attachments. My friend is trying to remotely restore the crashed drive that was backed up. Issue is a back up went to run at 1am and flushed the old one and started a new one and failed. My personal backup was a bit dated. So I restored what I could from that.

If people ask, pass the word on.KLC and I have done our best to let the staff know but we are also turning to some of you to let others know and direct them to this thread if they have questions.

Not a way to start the new year. :(

Posts were in a sql table. Backup we had was 6 days old.
Attachments that were lost were on the same drive but stored differently and the backup was older.

So the answer is no, we dont believe the drive can be saved. We are lucky we had backups and they worked out well even.

I was able to recover all the people that signed up emails as well to let them know to return.

Trust me, its a real shame the drive puked. :(

So was it the drive or the server that went south?

Well sir it looks as though we are both going to have to give each other 3 props each. hahahha here you go. ;-)

P.S you guys really did a great job restoring order. I am proud of how quickly you did it too. It's funny how much info you can lose in just 6 days. I'm saddened that I lost how many times I've posted. That's important to me randomly. At least till I hit 1000. :-P All while trying to not be a post *****. lol That's the way I see I'm not newish anymore. It also makes me think I post a lot when in 6 days how many I lost haha

I will say so far (we will see tomorrow for sure) how many people are understanding and supportive after this has happened. That just shows how great the site is. This same thing happened on the mr2 forum. Same deal. About a week went missing...Chaos! Uproar! Everyone freaked out. MR2oc...Cool site. Only about 40% of the people on their are cool though. Like I said. Great job guys.

Good Morning Ranger Owners. My name is Will. I own a '99 Ranger and am in the process of trying to replace a wheel cylinder. I can't figure out how to search this site for info, even though I was able to do it once before. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Will

Go up a few posts to (RICK)
Once you are their you will his comment. Under that in his signature is a link to all the info about the site you need to be able to see how the site works and where to place what. Also if you go to the main forum. Just the absolute first page where allllllll of sections are you will basically be able to tell where it is for what you are looking for. I'll try and get a link or two for you after I get a few things done.

Kudos on getting it restored quickly. It could have been worse and more info could have been lost.
What steps are being taken to prevent it from happening again?

The only thing you could do really would be to get more harddrives and make more backups of the site. Unfortunately there is no way to see a drive failing. It just happens. :( Kudos to ghe admins for only losing 6 days worth of data and getting things back in working order do quickly! Well done guys!

Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding. Everything is quite the mess. Losing that much data is no joke.
