manual or automatic
2WD or 4x4
see if you had a signature I would not need to ask these questions
if your truck is a 4x4 that is good mileage
if your truck is an automatic and 2WD it is low, but not that bad
if your truck is 2WD and a 5 speed manual, well it could be about 3-5 MPG more.....
and your rear end gear ratio will also make a big difference.......

23MPG is pretty good for a Ranger in my experience. I averaged about that in my old 2.5L I4 powered 4x2 w/ the manual and absoloutely no options (ie no AC, no power nothin'). That truck was probably one of the lightest, most efficient Rangers available. I wouldn't expect 23 in a V6 powered truck.. Especially if you are a 4x4..
My current 2003 4.0L powered 4x4 averages about 17-18 MPG. My record high for a tank is just under 21 MPG.

I average 16 with 35" tires and 5" of lift.
But I only got 17 to 18 typically before the modifications. That's a 3.0L 2WD automatic. The mileage figures for highway are almost unachievable except on speed-limit driving for long periods on the highway, in my experience. I did get 22 mpg on long trips at one time -- haven't measured it on the highway since all the mods.

i have an ext cab 3.0 auto 2wd with 4:10 gears and i have very controlled driving and I rarely push it to 2500rpms when driving. I also have 245/75/r16 tires and I avg in the high 16's. So if your setup is anything like that its about avg.

yeah i was looking up the specs online on all data at school and it said that with rangers or any car its more efficient to have the a/c on with the windows up on the free way or the drag makes fuel economy worse

I get ~12 on the street. Maybe 15 50/50. And I have gotten 22 on the freeway cruising 70-75.
Like I'v said, this thing is a truck and if you wanted good gas milage you should have bought a honda.

The last three Rangers that I have owned (98 Reg Cab, 02 Ext Cab, 04 Ext Cab) have all averaged 21 to 23 MPG. They were all 3.0 v6's. Most of my driving is Highway as I commute about 60 miles roundtrip. The biggest influence has always been tire pressure. I have always run them at 34-35 psi.

try rolling on 37s thats the only thing i hate about them it seems like im filling up every day. i havent recalled my odometer since putting on new tires so i cant get a number but it dropped but i guess it aint so bad.

There are so many varriables in the configurations of these Rangers. Engine size, drivetrain (4x4 vs 4x2), trans, gearing, cab/wheelbase, etc etc. Slap individual driving styles and environmental differences on top of this and no two of us are going to see identical MPG figures. One guy w/ a 4.0L 4x4 can drive like a grandma and nip at 20 while another guy can downshift to 3rd on the super slab in his 4x2 3.0 (just read Wowak's post!) and be lucky to clear 15-16.
That said, I've yet to hear of any 'silver bullet' of an aftermarket product to improve fuel efficency. As much as I wish I had.
I too would agree that tire pressure probably is one of the factors. I too run at 34-36 psi..
