Ford attacks TRS!

oh you mean the 5 jets that are being sold?
or the fact that they neglected to mention those jets were used for charitable causes as well? look here - http://www.corpangelnetwork.org/news...rd%20Motor.htm
"For 20 years, Ford has been providing a great service to many cancer patients and bone marrow donors by opening its executive flights to those needing specialized treatment," said Bonnie LeVar, Executive Director of Corporate Angel Network. "
OK NOW ILL SHUT UP ON THAT TOPIC!

i promise! no more discussions of bailouts, or politics in this thread by myself even if confronted.
Just the topic at hand because its not politically motivated at all.
Remember last year or so when Ford announced the cease and decist order for all of the Mustang suppliers out there? Most got by with just a "not affiliated with Ford Motor Company" of just by changing their names. It somehow had to signify that it was referencing the FORD Mustang. Like on this site - http://mustangcountryintl.com/
This is also like the cease and decist that Ford sent to an internet forum that was selling a calendar of their members cars. the members got all pissy about it till they talked to Ford about what was up. It wasnt that Ford was mad because they were selling pics of their own cars, it was that the calender was using the Mustang name and the Ford logo as part of the advertising and on the cover of the mag. That and it was being sold for profit.

Ya know, here's what I say.
If anything does happen, we as a Ranger community need to find a way to take FoMoCo to court over it. First off, as owners, enthusiasts, and Fords major part of the consumer's side, we need to stand up. Look at it this way, how many of you were brought here in the first place. You google search "Ford Ranger" or "Ranger" you automatically see TRS, R-F, and RPS on the first few links. Thats how I was brought here when i was shopping for mine.
Second, what we provide is essentially free advertisement to FoMoCo. I personally have owned 2 of their products as well as more Licensed Merchandise than I can shake a fist at.
The Ranger community is a fraction of the Ford community, yet look at how many there are?
It's honestly a bunch of crap on their behalf, and if this is how they treat their loyal fanbase and consumer's, then I'll be selling my truck.

Same. I'd get a Taco just to **** them off.
Guess it's not enough Ford's all we ever owned. We didn't need a '71 Mach I but we bought it, there we're faster cars out already but we had a '71 BOSS 351. We loved our Thunderbird. Our 91 F-150, 94 F-150, 97 F-150, 99 Explorer, 02 Explorer, Two 2003 FX4's (bought them at same time), 2006 F-150, and my Ranger. Way to make me us feel like loyal customers. I get **** Daily for driving a Ford, and daily I defend this company.
The Black Mustang Club just finished going through all this crap.

From my experience with the Yamaha FZ1 site, which was the first one to go through something like this that I had ever heard of @2003, this is the direct result of a 1st year lawyer trying to make a name for himself.
FZ1oa.com was one of the main reasons I and many others bought that bike. The admins got a similar letter from a law firm proclaiming the same thing, Yamaha knew nothing about it until they were contacted by a member who was a lawyer if I remember correctly. Why they continue to happen I will never understand. Nothing but bad publicity for the company involved.
You guys who would sell and by a Yota can't do that either because if I remember correctly they did the same thing @ a year ago.

So Ford is so broke they need to go collecting money from internet forums. Pathetic!!
If they didn't waste their money on vehicles like the Edge and adding pretty chrome to the Focus, I really don't think this would happen.
I hope Ford goes under. The domestic companies could benefit from following suit of the import companies.
One thing is for sure, my next vehicle will not be a Ford.

If it happens I won't sell my truck, but I will probably not buy the F-250 I plan on getting after the ranger dies.

Either one of those outsells the Ranger in this day and age. I believe the Ranger struggled to move 3311 units last month. The Edge that they "waste their money" on moved 5,080 and the Focus sold more than both of those combined at just over 8,900. Its not about the money. Its about protecting their trademark. You seriously think that they are sitting in their high castle salivating over $5000?
As far as why they are killing the Ranger in a few years, the current platform would need to be significantly retooled to accomodate new crash regs on the horizon, one of them being side airbags (not wide enough) and ESC. Its not worth investing when there is a new platform just a couple years away. (no, not the T6)

Ryan,
Thank you for your email. What people do not understand is that the Ranger Station was selling, without a license, counterfeit Ford® decals as depicted below:
These Ford trademarks are the intellectual property of Ford and Ford has authorized licensees who sell these decals and pay a licensing royalty to Ford. Think about it this way. Assume that you are a world-famous celebrity and people are counterfeits of your autograph or photos that were falsely autographed by you and making money off of your autograph and image. You would demand that these people stop selling your counterfeit autograph and image and that these people compensate you for misappropriating your image. Similarly, if someone were selling counterfeit images of Mickey Mouse, the Walt Disney Corporation would go after them. If someone were selling T-Shirts with counterfeits of the Dallas Cowboy logo, the Dallas Cowboys would go after them.
Ford has no complaints with Ranger enthusiasts or people who support the Ford brand. All Ford is doing is protecting its intellectual property, and protecting its licensees.
Here is an article that I wrote recently about why Ford protects its trademarks. I hope that it helps you understand Ford’s position. I also hope that you will post this email on your discussion boards that Ranger enthusiasts consider and understand Ford’s position.
The Ford trademarks and trade dress are some of the most recognizable in the world. Ford takes a tremendous amount of pride in this, and considers its trademarks to be among the most valuable assets. In an effort to both enhance and protect the value of the Ford name and image, Ford is constantly engaged in both promoting its trademarks and policing their use to ensure that persons and businesses authorized to do so use the trademarks in an acceptable manner.
Because of the cachet of the world-famous Ford name, thousands of independent businesses and people make a living from or pursue a hobby related to Ford products and services. Unfortunately, many of these businesses improperly attempt to affiliate themselves with Ford by using Ford trademarks and trade dress (for instance, the depictions or photographs of Ford’s distinctively shaped vehicles) in advertising their products and services. Ford appreciates the enthusiasm these people have for Ford products. Ford in no way wants to put these companies out of business, or prevent these businesses from advertising their products and services in a manner that is fair under Federal and state trademark laws. Ford cannot, however, allow these businesses to use Ford’s trademarks and trade dress in a way that creates the appearance that these businesses are affiliated with, sponsored by, or approved by Ford when they are not.
Ford’s trademarks and trade dress serve several important purposes. First, seeing the distinctive Ford logo on a product or business is an immediate indication that the product or business is authorized by Ford. Second, a product bearing a Ford trademark is an indication that the product is of high quality and has passed Ford’s strict quality control procedures and inspections. Third, placing a Ford trademark on a product indicates that Ford, or an authorized agent, is the source of the product, and that the product is genuine and not counterfeit. When the public purchases a product or service sold under a Ford trademark, the public has every right to expect that the product or service is the “real thing.” All of this, in turn, contributes to the value of Ford trademarks as legitimate and important business assets of the company.
At times Ford enthusiasts question why Ford is so adamant about policing its trademarks and preventing unauthorized uses or infringements of them. It is quite common for someone who is using a trademark without permission to say, “I’m giving Ford free advertising, so why does Ford care?” Ford cares because it is important that Ford be able to exercise control over the quality of the product or service bearing Ford’s trademarks. If a disreputable business sells an inferior product or service that uses a Ford trademark, the poor quality of that product or service reflects on Ford. A person who is disappointed by that poor product or service will not take the time to determine whether Ford in fact authorized the use of its trademarks. They will, probably rightly, assume Ford to be the ultimate source of their disappointment and may transfer their loyalty to a competitor.
If a business not affiliated with Ford uses any Ford trademark, whether through the use of photographs, depictions or silhouettes, or any confusingly similar variation thereof, without Ford’s express, written consent, then that business is violating Federal and state trademarks laws. That business is also misleading the public into believing that such business is affiliated with Ford. It is also not sufficient for a business to state that it is not affiliated with Ford but continue to use Ford trademarks without permission. The business is still misappropriating the goodwill and reputation developed by Ford, and attempting to capitalize on or profit from Ford’s goodwill and reputation. Even with the best of intentions, unauthorized use of another company’s trademark is against the law and misleading to the general public.
Unauthorized and infringing uses of Ford’s trademarks come in many disguises. Examples of cases in which Ford has successfully pursued infringers include the following: (1) businesses that use Ford trademarks in their business name such as “John Doe’s Ford Repair;” (2) businesses that use Ford trademarks or trade dress in advertisements, including phone book advertisements; (3) businesses that place Ford trademarks or trade dress on products such as shirts, coffee mugs, key fobs, etc.; and (4) businesses that use Ford trademarks in their Internet domain names.
Ford genuinely hopes the public understands the need for Ford to police and enforce the proper use of its trademarks and trade dress. To protect the value of its trademarks, Ford is obligated to object to and pursue unauthorized uses of its trademarks and trade dress, even if the use of the trademark or trade dress does not appear offensive or objectionable. If Ford does not do so, it may be deemed under the trademark laws to have abandoned its trademark rights. We thank you for your understanding and support.

Someone on another forum said this, makes the most sense out of anything else I've read.
HP&A is a "shopper" - they search for anything that might be a TM violation, take action, and then contact the "aggrevied" party (in this case Ford) to create a settlement.
There's no way to know for certain, but HP&A may not even be currently retained by FMC - they could just be shopping for more automaker business (they do handle TM issues for VW).

" It just seems to me that TRS, RF, and RPS would all get hit at once if they were really getting serious... "
Actually.. *IF* this is from Corporate Ford by any means.. they are doing what they need to do.
Make an example, establish a case/precedence. Use the proceedings for the next ' settlement '. Once theres an establishment to build off of, they have momentum in their favor.
What APPEARS to have happened though.. Fords ' badges ' or ' logos ' were being sold. Its not the site itself, but the sales/transactions of goods that are being questioned.

It would appear, Ford or a rep of theirs is trying a move that legally equates to EXTORTION. They are saying they want 5 grand AND legal property that has been in Jims possession for a period of at LEAST 10 years.
What I would do.
Open a case or press charges for extortion in a local court. Once a case is filed and a motion for charges comes up, I would then ask that lawyer whom mailed Jim " OK.. I have this case for extortion going ( insert the case number here). If you would like to legally PURCHASE *MY* Intellectual property, 10Mil sounds like a good round number. How you want that 5 grand you were asking for? Cash? Check? Paypal? "

Just tell them we are all homosexual black muslim hermaphrodites and if they continue legal proceedings we will have to contact Jessie Jackson, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and we will get a muslim cleric to issue a fatwa against them!! Hell, they will probably give us $5,000 for the inconvenience.

Cash? Check? Paypal? "
They CANNOT forcibly take the domain.
exactly!!! Why hasnt Jim contacted a lawyer?

I think Jim is being lazy on this, said he doesnt want to deal with them at all. Well either he does or he loses it supposedly.
I am with D, never heard of such taking domain names away, you have to buy them from who ever owns them and they can set the price.
10mil doesnt even seem like enough.
I would say 10 billion. Bankrupt them.
