while this is disturbing , with some of the crap that goes on on that web site, it couldnt happen to a nicer guy ( sarcasm).. while id hate to see this place go or any other truck site i visit due to the audacity and ignorance of the manufacturer, i have little sympathy or feeling for that place..

This is from RPS between the founder and a member:

Ford feels that we are infringing on their trademarks and violating their intellectual property rights because we use 'Ranger' in our name.

Apparently it's ok for Ranger Boats, Polaris Ranger and the Lone Ranger.

We are not the first to get attacked by this:

The question is, where do we go from here?

How are we possibly going to rename the site and still be able to attract Ranger owners, when Ford doesn't want us using their name.

To clarify:

Ford wants $5,000 AND therangerstation.com domain name.

I also don't feel like battling it out with Ford. I don't even have the $5,000 they want and no way to get it.

They want me to stop using this name in 10-days. I have to come up with a plan real damn quick, because it's not like I can redirect therangerstation.com to something else.......

I would tell them to screw off.

Jim Oaks needs to tell them that too. Along with all of the other ranger sites.

I wouldnt send any emails until we actually hear this is true and one of the admins is contacted by Ford. We dont want to **** them off because they may not be able to do anything or will not do anything at all. If we start sending a bunch of angry emails who knows what the corporate lawyers can do to us. Im sure there are ways we can go around this like stated above changing our name to R-F. I dont care the ranger forums sticker is staying on my truck Ford would definitely disappoint me on this one. If they read the threads and seen how much pride and joy we take out of our vehicles they may re consider. I remain neutral on the issue until I find out for sure by one of our admins or mods.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just seen Triggers post. Screw Ford on this. I love how they attack the customer for the love of the vehicle they make. The same customer who will pay for a bridge loan to keep their company alive. Screw them we bought there product dont we have the right to express our pride for it? I say if this happens to everyone we need to organize a protest!

what? the ranger station? that site has more useful information for a lot of us than this site does.. but RF has lots of friendly people and it seems to be more active so i'm still here.

x2, TRS is what got me hooked on rangers and there is a plethora of information over there. But I since slowed down alot over there when I found my way to ranger-forums back in the day

I was thinking about this some more.

If they just sent an email you dont have to do anything.

If they showed up at his door and had documentation telling him to do this then its different.

If its an email, screw it

Someone mention the media???

Someone needs to tell Jim Oaks to call Action 7 news in Detroit, get a story going. Or better yet ABC news in New York.

This is when the media is a good thing.

I was going to post something on here but saw this and am glad someone is raising awareness about it here as well.

We are discussing it on DR too: http://www.dezertrangers.com/vb/showthread.php?t=81113.

I'm with Beard... they have a few more steps to take before it's really something enforcable and I'm doubting Ford would do that in an email......

Either way for sure getting the media involved would be a good way to shine light on the issue... prank or real
