I talked to Justin, Shane... Print both pin outs for the harnesses for the manual and automatic PCM... Where it plugs into the PCM... We may able to use the wires that are down there for the Reverse sensor and the VSS. Justin thnks it's quite possible to do that!

Ok so I took my truck to the stealership today to talk with them about a possible appointment for the computer work, I told them what was going on. So I told him what I need them to do, what I've done and what I have if they need it and he went off looking for someone else to answer my question. Apparently he asked a couple people and finally came back and said this:

The PCM's are VIN specific starting in 02 due to the dual sticks that are offered. But that since it's an 01 there's less chane of it not working then he thought. I told him my truck is an 01 so that was good and told him the PCM I have for my truck to put in was a 02 and that it had twin sticks. Said the chance of it working now was less possible. Regardless of it working or not, for work like that he said it was going to cost me $240. WHETHER IT WORKED OR NOT!

So Shane and I got to thinkin. I'll pull a PCM from an 01 truck that came factory with 4.10's, 5psd, manual and possibly try that PATS override kit on eBay, that Zach suggested. I think I need to talk to Billy's dad and see what Gresham Ford can do for me when I come home next Thursday for Easter.

Plan was to re wire the harness after the manual PCM was put in so I have my speed sensor and my reverse sensor working and have NO rev limiter.

What do you guys think? Justin, why do they want to charge me $240 for some stupid computer work that will take them like 30 mins?

because they can, it frustrates me because they do it at my work too. you can get the correct PCM and have them program the PATS keys to it, they should charge you about 1hour or less to do so, it may be cheaper if you purchase an additional key from them because they will have to do it anyway....or bring it here...

Well here's the dilema.... They PCM I have was from a ranger with a 4L 5spd and twin sticks. Is that one of the VIN specific PCM's he was talking about not working?

What do I tell them?

So to less complicate things, if I get a PCM that had all the exact same stuff as me stock other than a manual, they should have a very easy time re writing the pats? From what I understand that's the case, I just hope they don't charge me $240... Especially if I go there and say a ford tech told me it will work and be able to tell them how long it'll take them. lol

Alright... I talked to the Ford Dealership near my parents house (where I live when i'm not at school). I'll be going home next weekend so I figured I'd figure this out for them to re-flash it.

I was able to find the correct PCM that I need at a junkyard about 40mi from my house where I'm at now. So I'm going to go pick that up on Friday for about $29 or less if I can talk them down. Maybe a toolbox mod lol..

Anyways, Ford in Gresham is going to the same thing Corvallis was going to do for $150 less and calibrate my factory PCM to my 315 tire size. Said it'll take them about an hour but Justin said that's a service minimum. He thinks if it takes them longer than 15-20 mins they should be shot. lol

Anyways, after that is done I'm going to following the wiring diagram for the PCM harness and manuall run my reverse sensor and VSS to the tranny. I'll just read the pin out for the Manual harness and make sure they're not wires I need for anything else. Should be fairly simple. 4 wires run down to the sensors that I have spare pigtails for :-)

I'll keep everyone updated and let them know the coloring on the wires for a possible reference in the future. After this is all done and works, I think it's the first OEM swap done with a PATS system. :-)

You better make sure your pats system is working. If its not I am going to take a road trip and come get your truck.

So went to Springfield and Eugene yards today. One of them was a closed to the public yard and that's where I got the ECU for $29. The other was in Eugene where I got some sweet needles and possible options for those with ST clusters. I had to bust the clear piece on the mazda where I got the needles and the dodge, I couldn't get them out with the tools I had so I just decided to take the needles lol

Shane, I think it's time we test out the dodge needles on your cluster! Yeah? White on white?

Orange and white or Orange and black?

Justin you know those only come on Mazda's right? That's what those are pulled from. I may be in the neighborhood to send you my 03 Ranger orange needles when I get these put on!...

I think the white would only look good with either a ST cluster or the stock ranger cluster that's black. What do you think?
