Romaswake's 1999 Ranger 4.0 4x4 "Baby Blue" Build

Hey guys! I finally have begun working on my first vehicle! Being almost 16, I will be driving soon, and want to have a good bit of it complete for its maiden voyage to school! I've being doing some wheeling all summer but just as a stocker... Not to much hard terrain either, just some old logging trails! I will try to make this build as detailed as possible and would love to get some feed back from all you ranger wizards of what I am doing right or wrong... Currently I have only done some small mods, Throttle Cable Mod, Undercoating, etc. But the bigger mods begin today! Stay tuned for updates!

Audio: Installed Kenwood 12" Subwoofer RMS 400watts, Kenwood Amp RMS of 350watts, Kenwood Head Unit w/ 50wattsx4, and Alpine Component speakers in doors.

I just wire wheeled, then wire brushed, then sanded the real axle, differential and gas tank skid and then painted it with some heat resistant paint. Nice and thick just like a undercoating, but minus the greasy oily part. Drive shaft and frame are next!

And a small bit of flex...

Thanks guys! I read up quite a bit about painting the drive shaft and it wont throw off the balance unless i apply a ton on paint on only one of the surfaces, other than that it would be fine... Probably am not gonna be doing it now anyways!

Guess what came in the mail today!? My new MBRP exhaust!!!!! Took a bit to install just cause laying down under the truck having to grind of the old rusty bolts and hangers took forever! Other than that, a very smooth install with great results! Only had to disconnect the sway bar to get it all lined up, but now that its mounted everything is bolted back up and no rubbing!

Old exhaust

More to come!

Not much has happen lately with the truck aside from installing my Antenna X shorty antenna... I'm not quite sure if i like it or not, aside from that, it was cheap and took about 5 minutes to install!

I like the sound, not to obnoxious but its still a decent amount of tone. Wish they had a system like that for my 5.0

Also where did you get that box, Mine is twice the size of that and I want some of my rear cab back

Thanks! I love it too!
I actually built it myself! was very easy, found the particle board in my basement and bought some carpet from Bestbuy for 15.99! I got the inlet wire-box thing for 3.99 from radioshack and then just jigsawed out the mounting whole! It was very easy to build, i just went by a couple different instructions of using 3/4 screws and some construction adhesive and the thing is never falling apart! The biggest thing of all is making sure you have the right internal volume according to your speaker, so it sounded nice and clean, i used some calculator app off of Google and it worked like a charm! Message me if you have any other questions!

Another little update with some bigger projects in the near future! I haven't really been able to do much to the truck lately but finally got the go ahead for new wheels and tires from the rents! Hopefully ill be ordering them sometime this month! (After all it is a waste if i install them without even driving the truck on a daily basis) I've gotten a few little things and began planning for some other little projects like a front hitch so i can throw a winch on!

2" Body Lift Came! Probally will be installing this next weekend!

Go a few little things of amazon, a hitch shackle and a couple cans of plasti-dip!

Lastly, I was measuring up the frame in the front and what not to start sketching out some designs of the front hitch. Unfortunatley i do not have access to a welder nor do any of my neighbors or friends so i will have to take it to a welding shop to get done :( Does anyone have a ball park of how much it will turn out to be?

i was looking to do the front hitch too.... one welder guy told me he'ddo it for about 100 bucks.... i thought thats way too much so me and my uncle welded mine on my truck.... but there are a ton of people on here that show a step by step guide on how to do it.... there under the fab and tool section on the ranger home page

It's like Christmas today! I love it when all your packages come at the same time! Today i got in the mail my Raptor Liner, Shackles, Tow Strap and ****** block! Still in the mail is my Superwinch Tigershark 9500 and my RCI front skid plate! I also installed a little inverter i found in the basement today under the driver seat, if i ever need some juice!

And a few shots of a old logging trail i went on last weekend with my Dad! Truck hasnt had anything big happen to it yet so there some wimpy pictures, but all the parts are coming together for this build!

I'll post a picture of the winch and skid plate when they come in! I got the skid plate raw, does bedlining it sound like a good idea to you guys???

Every time I open this thread I miss my ranger. Yours looks absolutely identical to mine. I really need to start hunting for a winter beater!

Yea. My grandfather did it for me. I'm not sure if I have any close up pictures of it or not. We just used a piece of 1/4 inch metal with the hitch welded to the top of that and used the tow hook mounting bolts as anchors. It worked really well when I used it.

Defiantly interested in a review on that winch when you use it.
