A Sharp F-250

Hey guys,

I came across this beautiful F-250 for sale and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger. Is there anything I need to look out for on this particular year?

Beautiful truck, no doubt... but it is anything but original. I would be curious to know what they want for it. As for things to look out for; I would be checking for fiberglass and bondo in all the obvious places. Even when a vehicle is is restored properly, there will still be some evidence of this under the paint. Just be careful, the guy in the video is a first class bullshitter!

Hey Michael,

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna take a magnet with me to try to find out if there's any thick patches of body filler. I wouldn't mind if they done a skim coat, but I wouldn't want it to be any thicker than a credit card. They're asking 15K (I'm going to see if I can get them down to 12K. And you're right, this guy can tell some real stories. I really dread dealing like with car dealers like this.

Brian, skim coats of filler are perfectly fine and necessary. Part of the "smoothing" process. What makes me think this isn't original is that I worked for Ford dealerships in the late 70's and early 80's. Ford never painted the underside like that. My guess is that is was a frame-up restore. Nothing wrong with that, though. Would love to see that truck in person! Actually, 15K isn't unreasonable if it drives as nice as it looks.

Yeah, I totally agree ... it looks like there was a lot of mods done to the underside of it and I don't mind, but I just don't like the fact that the salesman is saying it has never been touched.

Rear bumper isn't original, and the amount of spray paint under that thing makes me want to throw up. The paint on the suspension is clearly uneven, which tells me that they spray painted over all the surface rust that is common on these trucks.

Thanks for chiming in on this one. I knew if anyone could tell me about these trucks it would be you. I kind of feel like this dude is hiding something (kinda of like he was shady), and for that reason I'm out. I really wish people would be more honest about the vehicles they're selling.
