Pic Request: Sport Trac with Ranger bed
#28
only on the bottom, the rails on the step side are very similar in size to the sport trac and trimming the bottom and re fiberglassing the bottoms may be easier to make work. Anyway you want to do it its going to be a pain.

true... it be so much easier to just buy a crew cab f150 with a 6' bed and a v8... But its more fun to be difficult and start a on project that no one has done just as long as i dont make it look stupid, im ok.
in all seriousness, I appreciate the advice though. my mind may totally change once I get a sport trac and take the bed off.

nothing yet. I've been looking just haven't found anything close to my price range.
I have checked eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices and Copart USA - The Source for Online Car Auctions - Home Page along with craigslist: houston classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events and crazedlist.org : search craigslist like a madman but haven't found anything. quite what I'm looking for much less in my price range. Once i find something, I will start a project thread. I am patient though, eventually what I am looking for will come around.

I now, thanks to this thread: https://www.ranger-forums.com/f15/if...ranger-114385/ , am thinking It may be easier, but probably more expensive, to find a crew cab ranger from overseas and just import it. It may make some headaches not as bad. (body lines, bed fitting and looking good, etc)

So, happened to come across this while browsing. Im fairly certian that the cluster swap is possible! I think that the 2004-2005 sport trac gauges will be able to be swapped with 2004+ ranger gauges.
Both connectors for each cluster use 2 terminals with 22 pins each and have a digital odometer. (I have the 2004 sport trac wiring diagram to verify this, I just need to pic up a ranger 2004+ wiring diagram as well. All I have are pictures for the ranger)
See these pictures for what I am refereing too.
Sport trac:
Front
Rear
2004 ranger:
From: GrafixGuy: 04+ clusters
I will have to re terminate the connectors/terminals obviously. but they do both have the 22 pins.
Now I just need to figure out If i can get either of those digital odometer to work with a 99-01 explorer v8
This is a wiring headache! im trying to figure all this out before I go for this project - Hence buying the wiring diagrams. Do some homework before I dive in.
Im not to worried about lengthening the bed. I know how to fix the top body line.
Anyway, tell me your thoughts on this. Do you think that the explorer v8 computer will work with these clusters or can I retro fit the exsisting 04 sport trac computer to work with the explorer v8???
Thanks guys!

Well I feel dumb.
The sport trac frame is wider than the ranger frame. The sport trac has a frame just like an explorer (OBVIOUSLY).
Well I was planning on extending the frame on the sport trac to accommodate a ranger bed... looks like ill have to figure out how the ranger bed mounts and "adjust" the frame lengthening and/or width-adjusting accordingly.
Any one have any ideas???

Man, I have been looking real hard for a sport trac that meets all my requirements and price range. I dont want to buy one that is perfect because I will be changing so much of it.
I was comparing this frame to my ranger frame, it shouldn't be to hard to do.
Eventually I will find one and do all or most of this to it.

Im new to this thread but heres my input: If the holes dont line up, which ould be a miracle if they did, just weld some tabs onto the frame and reinforce them so you can actually haul something. I dunno if itll look goofy or not though is the only thing If the fender sticks too far past the tires then itll look stupid. If that happens, then you should be able to swap axles fairly easy and theyll be wide enough to brige the gap.
And btw, GREAT PROJECT! I love when people go out on a limb to try something new! Yea you can buy a F-150 but theyre common! Iv NEVER seen a full size bed on a Sport Trac so its ultra unique. Thumbs up to you!

Yep, the frame the drive shaft and all the other cables and brake lines that fit on that frame would have to be 2 ft longer...thats a lot of extra boxes to check on the order form and to have hanging around in some warehouse waiting for the assembly line to get re-fitted. 4 door 6 foot bed Ranger is like that Unicorn that missed Noah's ark. The way it rained here today....I hope there is an ark builder still out there????
