Pic Request: Sport Trac with Ranger bed

So here is another one of my crazy ideas...

I have recently been very interested in Sport Tracs. I like the fact thats its a lot like a ranger and that it has a "normal" back seat. What I dont like is the fact that it has a 4' bed.

Has anyone seen a sport trac with a 6' bed on it? I have the oportunity to buy one here shortly and want to know if it is possible and if it has been done.

I know it would take a lot of work (extend the frame, move the rear axle and suspension back, extend the drivetrain... etc) But has it been done???

How much work would it take? How weird would it look? Is it worth it??

THanks guys for any help!

they look bulky I think the truck would look off if someone had a 6ft bed on a Sport trac.

Looking at the pics Im thinking you'd have to move the wheel well and have new moiunting points? Im not sure i;ve never taken my bed off.

haha, thanks. I may do that myself just to get a feel for it. Im strongly considering getting a sport trac that needs work tho and replacing the bed. Do some work in the rear to make it look stock as well... I'll see. Ive got a lot of time in front of me... We'll see what I end up doing. My ranger is pretty stock... maybe i should just stick with modding that.

OH! to add to the list of "want to do sport trac mods" I also want to put an 04 ranger front end on it. I think the stock front end on those is kinda ugly. Besides, I wana make it more ranger than explorer.

^ lol all the work you wanna do to this sport trac, it sounds like it would be easier to chop the ranger frame and extend it!

i don't think it'd fit unless you did alot of custom work. what are the wheelbases? i could see a ext cab being the same wheelbase as a sport trac but there is more bed before the wheelwell on a ranger then a sport trac.

This only has a hope of working on the '05 and older sport tracs, those were built on the ranger frame. You would have to lengthen the fram and move the rear axle back. It really wouldn't look good.

I do believe the sport trac beds are alot deeper too. therefore having taller bed sides. The back of the STs cabs are a hell of alot different. It would be way to much work for what its worth. Might as well chop the ST bed in half and extend it.

dang, ok...

The sport trac im looking at is an 05. It is the adrenalin model with the pioneer sound system. It actually needs a little work anyway. The bed is torn apart already and would need some work anyway. Here are some pics of it:

It looks pretty bad, but i do not think that the frame is bent. I am doing some checking though to verify that. I saw this sport trac and really like it. Especially cause its the "Adrenalin" edition!!!!!!

Anyway, I think this would be a fun project to try and get going again. It needs some front end work along with some doors and the bed, but, depending what I can get it for, it might be worth it!

Tell me what you think, be critical!

Thanks

haha, If i do get it we'll see.

So, I found this and thought it looked interesting... it might possibly help my delema of no 6 foot bed being on a sport track:

It looks like the sport trac may only be a few inches wider than the ranger. Where the 7 box shaped thingy's are on the back i believe is the same as on the ranger cab. I still think a trac might potentially look good and have way more functianality with a 6' bed on it, granted some molding will have to be done on the bed by the rear of the cab to make it look stock.

i'd do some work on those back doors to make it match the body lines more of the ranger. if you just do a crappy job and throw it together, it's gonna look like crap.

the only thing i'd take off that arenaline model is the stereo.

agreed on the crap, lol.

The rear wheels need to be moved up a hair to avoid the "limo" look, otherwise its kinda cool looking.

Here is what I'm thinking:
- Change the front end of the sport trac to a 04+ front end of a ranger (I like the look way better)
- fab up and install a ranger bed and do ALOT of work on the rear end to get the bed to fit.
- remove all the "style-istic' moldings on the side of the sport trac doors to make it more "ranger-like"

For some reason, I really like the way the rangers look over the sport trac.
The only other thing that the sport trac will need to make it look "normal" is ranger decals to replace the sport trac ones, and a lift kit with bigger tires (it will help out the appearance a ton IMO)

it would be cool if you could make the back door a little smaller and more straight vertically, and move the rear pillar in a few inches.

might look a little better

These are the images that used to be above, plus one that I just did:

This one I started with a 7 foot ranger bed, and i think i converted it into about a 6 foot bed. Thats what Im going for... it looks kinda wierd, but that could be the difference in the pics that I got it from.

I think I may actually be doing this. I got the OK from the wife. I have a garage. I am now just needing to find a black 2004-2005 sport trac with 4x4 and a sunroof for cheap. Dont care about the motor. I have been looking for a while and will continue to look.

Here is the list of things I want to do to it:
- Install a 2004+ front ranger clip
- Mod a ranger 7' bed into a 6' bed and install it onto the sport trac
- Install a 302 V8 from a 99-01 explorer
- BW4407 - Electric Shift-on-the-Fly - POSSIBLY with Torque-on-Demand)
- Found in F150/Expedition(2003 or so)
- The axle will be longer so that should help pushing the drive-train back and elongating the frame to accept the 6' ranger bed
- Possible a cap
- Way in the future do a Removable Exo-Cage

----- Yeah, I'm dreaming real big, but the 6' bed will happen if i can get it to look right along with the v8 swap, well, once I can find a sport trac that fits my criteria for cheap, lol -----
