Ummm i try not to put paint in a heavily used area....i wouldnt do it...

If you did, you would have to scuff up the surface really good to make it stick....

but then you would have any lights at dark.....and it would just be plain....

Good idea but i wouldnt do it

then yeah. It has been done quite a bit around here (RF).
There are two bolts that are located just above the HVAC controls that you have to remove. From there the plate just pops off.
I actually did the bezel, the cup holders, and the part of the door panel where the handle is. in the pics the blue looks kinda fruity but it is a lot more subdued in person. I like it and with a couple coats of clear there should be no wear issues. As you can see i didn't clear them and i can see some to the light fingernail marks around the handles but nothing that can't be rubbed out.Name: PICT0627.jpg

if you want more info you can go look through the interior forums and there should be plenty of info.

why would it not light up? As long as you dont paint the buttons on the radio, you'll still get illumination..

Aw that is cool.

What you could do though is either take a picture or write down what each of the buttons do, spray the faceplace your color, then go to a local sticker/vinyl place and have them make you stickers for the buttons. Or you could do the same thing except cover the current lettering with the stickers or whatnot, paint, peel them off, then clear it. That way the buttons would still have Illumination.

if i was gonna paint the faceplate i would just find a way to either detach it from the assembly or mask all the buttons, cd slot and disply off...it would still look cool with a whatever color face and black buttons...plus you won't lose your backlighting...

True, But I would want the thing all one color. Either all black, or all another color. If you knew where all the buttons were and what they did, I think It would look cool monochrome. Very clean too without a bunch of writing on it.

What about trying a transparent paint i know sometimes transparent will show up with a background, but then would let the light shine through just maybe a different color? May be crazy but just an idea

well if you're painting over a factory black face all you're gonna do is candy coat it...it will just give it a different color tint showing up on top of the black..

the blue on this looks sweat!im thinking of doing that to my truck what kind of paint did you use.like spray paint or real car paint.my brother paints cars now a days and did his car interior with real car paint and a bunch of clear coat but im wondering if its worth it price wise.

and as to the question of painting the radio were you talking about the console?because i was reading about ppl talking about the buttons etc.hmmm i dont know how great of an idea that is.it would be hella hard i think.like to get it just right.it might look good but i dunno i wouldnt do it.. just get and up graded consule that looks real good.

i just picked up some metal speck (not Flake) auto paint in an arosal can from NAPA. Two cans of that and three cans of a fair quality clear (which will go on when i get the time pull everything back off). That should do ya.
