LED cup holders

i've had this idea, and wondered if anyone else has done it is i picked up over the weekend a 3 pack of pre-wired red LED's, and was thinking about doing the lighted cup holders... what does everyone think? and whats the best position for the LED? on the side, firing straight up?

thanks

i think if i were to do it i would go around the sides at about mid level and then scuff the tops of the lenses to diffuse the light in all directions...put maybe 4 or more in each cup hole

i've always wanted to try a lit cupholder mod.

my idea was to get a piece of thin plexi from home depot and cut a circle from it that fits in the cupholder. then i'd tint the plexi and put 2 or 3 diffused LEDs under it, so it looks like the whole bottom of the cupholder is glowing.

I saw something at autozone like that, it was circular and sat in the bottom of your cup holder and whenever you placed a cup on it the leds would light up.

I don't know much/anything about plexiglass lighting but what if someone took a round slab of plexi, attatch to bottom removing old bottom, sanded the bottom to frost it, put the LED lights mounted to the excess slab/hangover of plexi pointing inward to light plexi, then took thin, rolled stainless steel/chrome and put an insert in the cup-holder to reflect the light off the walls? LOL this probably sounds/look rediculous.

This is a awesome idea, I can never see my cupholders at night, im normally concentrating on driving, it would be cool to have a little halo of light down there to aim for.

I think this is something you guys were talking about making:

i saw this idea years ago when someone posted a pic of thier setup turned on at night, with a water bottle in the cupholder. looked sweet lighting up the whole bottle.

i was just thinking about this is well. maybe have a downfiring LED from by the airbag disable switch... would light that whole area if you roughed up the LED so it diffused better... what do you guys think of that simple solution?

bunch of cars are coming with more interior lights or "ambient lighting". i don't want to go over board and have lights everywhere, but def the ranger needs more courtesy lights than it has!
