2x4 Ranger to a 4x4
I have a question for anyone that knows this answer. I have a 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 2x4, and one of my buddys found me the same truck but it is 4x4 but it is not extended cab, same year and everything. The 4wd truck was in an accident and the frame is badly bent so I cant fix the frame but everything else is ok. And I was wondering if the front end would bolt onto my 2wd truck and the transfer case and all the 4wd excesseries? Or would I have to make new holes for everything?

Not so. In the process. You can't buy a newer truck with a solid axle for instance.
Furthermore, if you do it right it's a lot cheaper than losing money buying another truck.
And I'm not the only one who's done it. But you better be sure you're up for it.
I SAS'd mine and it's a lot of work -- but worth it.
But a direct answer to the specific question: NO. It won't bolt up without welding on new brackets. 4x2 XLT's and 4x4's use different front mounting brackets and steering components.

The easiest way and cheapest way for you to have 4wd is to do a SAS (solid axle swap)......since you already have the coil buckets and steering box it wouldn't be all that expensive or hard......

A SAS is actually a lot easier on the TTB or TIB trucks because of the 2 hardest parts to mount/aquire is already on the truck from the factory (steering box and coil buckets)

TIB = Twin I Beam ('97and older 2wd Rangers front suspension)
Both are a form of IFS (Independant Front Suspension) as are the newer Rangers.....
The only way to make your truck 4wd and it be worth your time, effort, or money would be to do a SAS (Solid Axle Swap).....if you don't do a SAS you will have to cut out the front crossmember of your truck and replace it with the front cross member off the donor truck......a SAS is by far the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to do it

Im in the same process right now changing my 4x2 truck into 4x4. I have 05 3.0 auto right now. I just bought a D44 81' wagoneer full high steer with same gears 4.88 and lockright. Im doing a leaf spring front may even do springs later but i have the leafs so ill run those for now. I literally have almost everything from the donor to bolt and weld on I just need a tranny swap and transfer case. Im talking to N3lz (i think it is) that has done the actual SAS to his 02 edge.
