For Sale: 2005 Mustang 4.0 V6 w/5-speed AUSTIN, TX

The Mustang ECU location. Right on the Fuse box (underhood) near the passenger shock tower.
Here are the unplugged connectors on the harness, NOT including the two grounds and the O2 sensor plugs.
ECU Plugs
I don't know what this is. Look it up on ALLDATA.
Same here, I don't know.
This is what I'm calling the "body plug". My 2J has something similar. This is where I'm tapping into everything that I need to tap into. ALLDATA should give you a detailed pinout of this, so you will know which wire goes to the EFI Power, etc. I believe this plugged into or near a fuse box/relay panel of some kind. That is what should be part of the "chassis harness".
These are your battery connections.
This is the main power wire feeding 12v+ to the fuse box. This is where all the power from the battery gets distributed to the rest of the vehicle, with the exception of the starter itself.

Hey Chad,
Thanks for posting all the pictures.
It looks like I'll only be able to use the core engine for my Ranger. I can tell from your pics that all the electronic components are different. I also found out that I'll need to replace the throttle body because the Mustang has an electronic throttle.
No offence, but $600 would be a great deal for someone needing a replacment engine for a 2005-2010 Mustang, but if I want to make this engine work in my Ranger or any Ranger I would need to buy atleast $400 worth of accessories and different electronic components and that would set me back atleast 1000 bucks.
I can get a nice 2005 Ranger 4.0 plug and play engine around here for about $750.
You should be able to sell your engine pretty easy on the Austin, TX Craig's List.
Good Luck with the sale.

Some Ranger engines were equipped with a crank driven (I think) balancer that was actually internal to the engine. Down by the crankshaft. I think you can tell if your engine had that as the oil pan was supposedly larger on one side if my memory is right.. I could be TOTALLY wrong.

I know exactly what you're talking about. That's called the balance shaft, and it's only found on the 4X4 4.0 SOHCs and I don't think the later model 4X4s have them.

No worries Brian. FYI, the electronic TB wouldn't matter if you used the mustang ECU, and in fact may be considered part of the "upgrade". If you were going manual, this wouldn't be a problem, but yeah. Rule number 1 in electromechanics for me is:
If you aren't comfortable or it doesn't feel right, don't do it. Good luck with the swap! :)

Thanks for being so understanding. I would love to put that Stang engine in my Ranger but there were just too many unknowns. I guess I would have been doing something no one else has done before. If I had money to burn, I would have experimented with it just to see if I could make it work.

Yeah I get it bro, no worries. I find myself in a similar situation with the 2J and my Jeep. When it's done, it may be the only one in North America. Kinda makes it hard to find motor mounts, you know? Good thing I'm a fabricator, lol.
