Throttle Cable off

Throttle Cable off
I was driving to the store today with my wife. When the truck started going faster and faster!!! I tried stepping on the gas ( Maybe the peddle was caught on something}. Than I put in neutral and stepped on the brake it skidded out and it stopped finally!!! I found out that the peddle had no tention on it, so I think the cable is off of it. What can cause this to happen and how do you fix it. Im hoping the cable just disengaged and didnt break. Anybodys thoughts would be appreciated!!!

Doesn't work that way
The throttle cable(gas pedal) doesn't hold the throttle closed, a spring on the throttle plate holds it closed, the throttle cable pulls the throttle open against the spring's pressure holding it closed
So access the throttle linkage, the spring is a coil type on the throttle plate's rod
It could also be the IAC valve opening all the way, can get engine up to 2,000RPMs

I was on a very busy street when this happened yesterday. I couldnt get out and visually see what the problem was, at first. Than I went through the passenger side and I was lifting gas peddle up and down and I noticed the cable wasnt connected to the peddle. The cable was haging down by the emergancy brake peddle. I couldnt get to the throttle body under the hood because of the cover and no tools.

You are 100% correct that cable was for the OBD2 plug I have to strap that up. When I got towed yesterday it was free to bring it to there facility. Now I believe the cable was off of the gas peddle. When the tow truck driver picked it up he drove it right up on the bed. The shop was telling me all day it was the throttle body, but couldnt find one for my truck. I think they connected the throttle cable to the peddle to drive it in the shop. I just took that cover off by the throttle body and it looks rusted so I sprayed throttle body cleaner on it now it doesnt feel sticky. But how do you diagnose the throttle body to know if it is defective? Im hoping they said that to make a buck and it went in my favor because they couldnt find the part!!!

First, the throttle cable coming off at the gas pedal end would mean the engine would just idle, RPMs could never go up, it would just idle
If the throttle plate(in the throttle body) is sticking then THAT caused the high RPMs of the engine, throttle cable is fine
If shop thinks you need a new throttle body then you probably do, the spring is most likely bad, letting the throttle plate stick open
If it was rusted then it will continue to stick randomly
When it happens again remember you can just turn the key back 1 click to shut off the engine, but don't turn it to far or you will LOCK THE STEERING WHEEL!!!!
