Hello there, fellow Ranger owners 👀
Hey y'all my name is Leonard.. Proud new owner of a 5-Speed B2500. Yes, I know the Mazda B-Series aren't technically Rangers, but you know...
Anyways, I'm grateful to be here. Seems like an awesome community. Already have some issues I posted about in the electrical/technical thread, hope y'all might be able to help me but I'll keep everybody posted regardless

Welcome to the forum
So 1998-2001 B2500, only years with the 2.5l SOHC Lima engines
Reliable engine but old technology, first used as a 2.3l in 1974 Pinto, 2.5l is a stroked 2.3l
It has a timing belt that needs to be changed every 80k miles or so, but if it breaks no engine damage can occur, but engine stops running of course, lol
2.3l SOHC Lima was used in Rangers 1983 thru 1997, on Mazda B-series 1994-1997, then the 2.5l was used 1998 to mid 2001 in both
Dual spark plugs were added for extra power in 1989, there is no alternating both spark plugs fire at the same time
You can, and should, unplug the 3 wire connector on one coil pack and start the engine
It should run smooth no misfires, this tests the 4 spark plugs on that side of the engine
Then shut it off and plug that coil pack back in and unplug the other one for same test
Do this once a year
You won't know a spark plug failed until BOTH fail in the one cylinder
You have an M5OD-R1 5-speed manual trans, aka M5R1, it uses ATF, yes automatic trans fluid in a manual trans, Mercon V is spec
Good reliable transmission
