Hello!

Hi all, my name’s Peyton and I’m the proud owner of a new (to me) 1998 Mazda B3000 SE. It is a 2wd 5 speed manual with about 207,000 miles on the clock at the time of writing. I bought the truck off a buddy of mine who owned the truck for about 5 years, before that I don’t know much of the history of it. She’s a little beat up, the a/c doesn’t work, and I’m missing some trim pieces but she runs like a dream.

Anyway, glad to be here, and here are a few pics of her!

Welcome to the forum

Red

1998 was first year of 3rd generation Ranger/Mazda, 1998 to 2011 is 3rd Gen
Different fuel system than 1997 and earlier, called Returnless fuel system, runs 60psi fuel pressure, pressure regulator is in the gas tank, on fuel pump assembly

3.0l Vulcan engine, OHV, used by Ford from 1986 thru 2008, very reliable engine, used in the Mazda B3000's 1994 thru 2008
It is designed as a High RPM engine, makes best power/torque at 3,500rpm, most engine do that at 2,500rpm, so to get best power wind it up, lol

Has the M5OD-R1 manual transmission, used from 1988 thru 2011 in Ranger/Mazda, very reliable as well
Uses ATF, yes, automatic transmission fluid in a Manual transmission, Mercon V, only holds 2.8 quarts bone dry so 2 quarts on an oil change usually, synthetic is fine to use

It has a hydraulic clutch system, has a reservoir in the engine bay above clutch pedal area, has a cap and then inside a rubber "air dam" cup that needs to be pulled out to check fluid level, some have put fluid in the cup and then the system can run dry, so just a heads up
It uses Brake fluid and brake fluid likes to absorb moisture from the air, so the "air dam" cup reduces fluids contact with air, cap needs to be vented so fluid can flow out to replace any lost fluid, same as Brake Master Cylinder cap is vented
Its a PITA to bleed this system so best not to let it run dry, rare for it to leak fluid, but check it every oil change or when convenient
