Well, I've looked at Ford Rangers with the 2.3L engines, and their air filter boxes looked pretty Different than the small one, found on my friend's ´94 Mazda B2300 (a rebadged Ranger), please look at the Photo below, and let me Know if the Air Filter Box on it, is identical to the one on your '97 Ranger:

No small engined Mustangs nor any econolines on our local Junk Yards, and F-150's are rare, but all the ones that I've seen, had V8 engines, either Gasoline or Diesel.

Kind Regards.

But Ford Rangers sold with the LADM (Latin American Domestic Market) Specs, are different from the USDM Specs; especially those made in Brazil, with the very bad, four cylinder "Power Stroke" diesel engines, that almost broke the Ranger lineup.

Then suddenly, instead of Mazda selling Rebadged Fords, "the tortilla was turned upside down"
(as we say here when something gets inverted), and Ford started to sell Rebadged Mazdas; with great success by the way; the 2010 up to date Rangers, has seen good sales in Latin America; here I share some photos of them with you.

There's also a Wagon version built in that Chassis, called Ford Everest, all these models features Rear Wheel Drive with solid axle and Leaf Springs in the Rear, but some are 4X4, featuring 6 speeds manual or automatic transmissions.

Do you have such Models in the USA?

Icon7 Sharin' more information meanwhile...

Also, ford sells a pretty small SUV here, with four lug 16" wheels; it is called Ford EcoSport, and a pretty small sub compact called Ford Ka; here I share photos of them, along a photo of the previously mentioned Ford Everest, which is built in the Frame and mechanics from the Mazda built Ranger. (by the way, the Mazda built Ranger, is also sold here, as Mazda BT-50)

More information on the Newer Everest, here:

Back on Topic, I am planning to visit my friend's home this incoming weekend, and try to do more things to his pick up truck; I was thinking that the fail might be related to the Wiring from the two distributors to each of the eight sparkplugs... or maybe we used the Wrong sparkplugs: the owner gave me eight new ones, "Denso" which are supposedly made in Japan, each one has two sparks; but I believe that they are not the Proper ones. I prefer NGK sparkplugs, but I don't know which ones are the proper ones for this engine.

Could anybody, please, let me know which sparkplugs are the best ones for this engine?

Kind Regards.

What I did the last weekend, was to change all the eight sparkplugs, and the wirings from Both distributors; but I had to use generic wires, the ones that you cut at the right size; because I couldn't find here, the original ones.

Despite that I couldn't find the air filter's Box, the issue has improved a Lot
(according to the owner's words), so it was some sort of Misfire.

I'll update this thread as something new happens.

Kind Regards.

These web forums became empty since the Facebook groups which I dislike, mainly because of two reasons:
one is that there, the information gets lost; the other is that people usually exchanging memes, joking and wasting time...

...let me share here a photo from a 1983 photo that I took then:

That was my toy collection then, I was eight years old; recently I restored my Tonka Truck,
using paint leftovers from this Mazda B2300 / Ford Ranger
