White Face A/C HVAC Control Piece

Nu Image Diamond Series White AC Dash Panel - AC231 by Nu Image

does anyone have this? I was thinking of getting it to match my white cluster gauge faces. Any feedback or pictures of the install? Does it simply go over the face of the stock-black one, or can you actually replace the stock one with this white one?

Is the actual panel as white as this pic ?
IMHO it will be too white, it needs to be toned down some or it will end up more white than the Gauge Cluster and sticking out like a sore thumb.
Just me and if this is what you are looking for forget I mentioned it.

Hey Jp7,

How did this work out ?
I haven’t taken my Heater Panel apart but thinking on it for today’s project.

Another thought, does the lighting come through the panel at all. it shouldn’t. i know but just thinking out loud again !

I have not put it in yet. I have it on my table. I'm not sure if I'm going to use this or not yet.

Funny that Ford didn’t put a white face Heater Panel in the Sports with the White Cluster.
Leave it to Ford…

To install it you just peel off the old black lay over and sick the new one in its place.

do you have white bulbs or blue ones behind it? If you have white ones, could you post up a night shot? I want to see if the red part of the temp control actually lights up red when you have white bulbs behind it

Why don't you just use some SMD LEDs and isolate them so you can make it light up any colors you want?

i want white led's behind it. before i do anything i just want to know what the climate gauge looks like with white light behind it. Everyone and their mother puts colored led's behind it which is useless if you want the red part of the climate gauge to look like its supposed to. i just wanted to verify that the red part is actually red when white light is used. I'm guessing it is, but I was just curious to see a pic of it.

Read about monochromatic light, do some research. When you do that you will understand why its a poor idea to use any LED behind a filter that is not the same color as the LED.

LEDs are for the most part monochromatic and have a dominant wavelength. White is really simulated white considering white is a mixture of all wavelengths. Filters remove frequency content, and since LEDs are monochromatic in nature, you are left with very little.

then why did ford make their OEM overlays to be used with white light? The filter is green. So why didn't ford put green bulbs behind the green filter? Oh, and red bulbs too, since the overlay also has red hashmarks and the climate gauge has red as well? Why does my stock sport trac gauge cluster look so nice with cool white LEDs behind it? Youre saying it's a bad idea if anything other than green bulbs are used, since the filter is green. But if I used green bulbs, then the red hashmarks would look dark and awful and not how Ford intended.

All of our trucks use bulbs from the OEM. Bulbs aren't monochromatic.

White LEDs and White Bulbs are very different. White LEDs aren't really white, they are pseudowhite.

Okay, but regardless of which type of lighting is used, you have to have white (or fake white) light to see every color on the overlay the way the OEMs intended. Im just saying that based on experience, Ive used both. For example, both green LED's and green bulbs behind a green filter will both make the green filters look fine, but it's the red filters on the overlay that will look like **** (technically brown) if green light is used. That's why I only use white light.

that being said, you argued that its a poor idea to use an LED behind a filter thats not the same color as the LED.
So what I did is apparently a poor idea. I'll take it, because this poor idea looks really nice and ive gotten compliments on it lol

When I say "poor idea" i say so because it's unoptimized. Don't take offense - I'm a perfectionist.

I don't understand the whole "pseudowhite" thing either. I know it is a fact though. I'm a member in a much more advanced LED forum and I was reading a sticky by one of the mods about it.
