More pics

OK guys here's some more progress

These were taken with my phone so the quality is less than desireable to say the least. I'll be working on it more this weekend and will get the updated ones taken with my digital camera.

The main progress from last time is the addition of the side supports on the left and the framing in of the storage space at the foot of the bed. I just have a few more adjustments to make and then we will be adding the plywood to the top. Enjoy!

nice project. I used to sell those joists. Looks like the perfect choice for your application considering the strength/weight of them. Great idea.

custom camper

My Dad had an F-250 custom, i think it was like a '79 or something. He had the same Idea and built a bed and storage boxes inside a overthe cab camper cover. Its awesome to have extra storage like that.
I doubt Id be able to get pictures, but this mod really brings back some memories.
I mimicked his idea with my first truck, a Dodge dakota, and a stainless steel canopy. I built the boxes over the fenders just to be able to sit back there. NEver got around to finishing my project, though, due to a lack of motivation(teen-years).
Anyways, yours looks great! And good luck!

Ok some more pics

Hey all,

Well I put a full day in yesterday and now all I have left is to sand, slap on some exterior paint, and carpet it. Here are some more detailed pics. Enjoy!

As you can see the bottom box is removeable so that I can lower the center portion of the platform in case I ever end up flying it solo on an overnighter and I want to have a little more head room. Also instead of hinging my compartment covers I opted to simply put a fitted piece of 1/2" plywood under the panels so that they fit snug and stay in place. Also it gives them a lot of rigidity. I hope you guys enjoy.

Yeah... this is some awesome wood work man. Looks like a really kick *** idea for a truck with a topper. Maybe I'll have to do this for a pulling truck or something. Great idea. What kind of stuff are you going to use for a mattress if any?

awesome set up! I use my bed too much to put in a platform like that. What brand/type of shell does your truck have? I like those hinges on the top.

I plan on using either just a standard foam pad no more than 4" or memory foam since they are getting closer in price with on another. The pad will only go in there when we are camping and will not be a permanent fixture. The top will be carpeted otherwise. Thanks!!!

Thanks! The good news about this is it's all sectional and is in no way attached to the bed itself. It is very easily removed if needed.

I actually have the Leer 100 XQ and I think this is the only model which offers the hidden hinge. I would check it out on leer's website at www.leer.com Thanks again for your compliments.

Deffinitely the ******* Wagen. My wife and I went camping with this thing during the summer and surprisingly enough we are expecting a son at the end of February 2008.
