removing rivets

Hey guys,

I was just wondering ... What's the best way to remove those infamous rivets?
Ford went crazy with these things when installing parts from the factory.
What is the correct size drill bit for this?
I disected a door with power windows and door locks, and there must have been 20 rivets holding the parts on. (Ford obviously didn't care about the mechanics that would have to replace these parts in the future) I removed a door handle and it was a real pain and I seen where the glass is attached with two rivets.

Here's a pic of 4 rivets

Thanks in advance,

take a punch and knock the centers out, then use a 1/4" drill. should take just a minute or two on each one.

I would not use a drill. I used a drill on mine and slipped and put a huge gouge in the paint on the door of mine. This was when I was taking off my door handles to paint them to match the body. I had to also repaint the pocket where it was damaged.

After I damaged it I realized that a dremel is much easier to get them out without risking paint damage.

The drill is the best way, SHARP is the key thing, if the center pin isn’t there then all the better that is what will cause the drill to slip.
Watch the depth, it just take a little BIT to remove the head an then push the rest through.

Thanks for the tips everyone, It seems to me like the center pin needs to be knocked out with a punch first and then drill the heck out of it with a 1/4 bit and a steady hand. (I tried drilling with the pin still in and the bit just slips over to the side.)

Don’t drill too hard or too deep at first, check out the first one and see, slow and easy…
