OHC Temp Sensor

OHC Temp Sensor
Is there any way to test the temp sensor to see if it is bad or not? Mine is showing about 20 degrees cool constantly. The sensor is basically a resistor that varies with temperature right? So there is a negative flow between the black/blue and black/white wires, and the sensor in between changes how much resistance it throws in. Is that how it works? Anyone know what kind of readings I should get in 80-90 degree weather?
I read on an old post that there is some thermo-resistor thingie I can get at radio shack that works the same as the factory sensor. Can anyone provide more info on that? I have the sensor in the interior so I don't think it matters if it has a protective housing or not.

I read somewhere that the thermistor for the console has 10K ohms base impedance at 68F. I have also heard that you can get one at Radio Shack.
Since the display goes to -40 when the sensor is unplugged, I would assume that the higher the impedance, the lower the temp displayed by the console.
Going by that assumption, it is possible that you might have the thermistor for the Explorer EATC climate control which has 30K impedance at 68F. It is similar in appearance to the console sensor and fits the same plug connector. I have no measurements to back that up, it's just a guess.

Anyone know the part # for the radio shack thermistor? They didn't have any at my local one but they had a few options if I wanted to order one. Just not sure what I need. In a couple days (I'm out of town, away from my truck right now) I will test the resistance on the sensor I have and note the temperature and see if it seems right to folks here.
