OHC Mod's - No Temp/Compass...

LEDs have a light pattern in degrees the smaller the number the more directional the LED will be.
Ask the seller about the LEDs before you buy.
Here is a listing from SuperBright LEDs, just for reference.
Super Bright LEDs - Component LEDs
Check out all of there LEDs, there maybe a straight up 1 or 2 watt SMD (LED) that will work by itself.
Again, I like to ask the Seller before buying it is their business to know what LEDs work best.
Luck, it is a long trip to get to best LED.
p.s. there are posts on the site that call out LED to use with resistors and yes you need a resistor of some type but there are newer technology out there other than the Std LED (the raised Dome Shape), so check out what SBLED has to offer.

I use Rat Shaq for components only and only components; I think most of their stuff is junk !
They have a pkg of round project boards, RadioShack.com. The pkg has a few different diameters so you can work it how you want.
While I was there I started looking at the high output (directional) LED and bought the largest they had and then added some around the outside.
Thisis the one I used 10mm Ultra-High Brightness Red LED (2-Pack) - RadioShack.com, this one is high output with a very narrow viewing angle (16 degrees) which makes it more directional.
I am afraid I took the "put it together and see method" on this one but so far it looks good in the Workshop. I held the unit about three feet off the ground, with the Shop Lights on and got a really nice pattern on the floor, again sorry no pics, didn’t think of it.
The OHC is install but not wired yet, the weather being too cold.
I am talking with SuperBright LEDs about a single larger Surface Mount Diode (SMD) (SMT LED) to replace the six smaller diodes I now have but it is just talking so far; I hope to order soon though, I will post what I come up with.

That sounds like a plan. But I will probally go with square boards so I don't have to buy two sets to get two the same size.
Dual Mini Board with 213 Holes - RadioShack.com
And what size resistors did you use and how did you wire them up in series or parallel? What about the smaller LEDs? What kind are they?
