difference between explorer and ranger shorty consoles.

Ok guys, I haven't been able to find the info I'm looking for. What is the difference between the ranger shorty consoles and the explorer shorty consoles?? I know there is the fix for the Ranger console bracket, but does this also apply to the explorer armrests?? I've been told that the expo consoles break differently, at the mounting point between the armrest and the console. i can see that the armrest is different, but how different? Is it the same skeleton but different padding???(all the way around in the explorer?

If i break an explorer console like these, can i use the same fix(new metal bracket) as the other brackets??

Any advice you guys can give me would be great..
Thanks in advance.

I don't fully know what you're asking but the hinge is 100% diff on an explorer console. It's like a door hinge, and also the explorer console clips shut with two brackets. I don't know exactly why you're thinking the explorer console is going to break (mine hasnt in years) but it seems easy to replace/fix in my opinion. Plus, it's easy to find broken center consoles int he junkyard so you shouldn't have a problem. People take the working lids, not the broken ones.

so the explorer consoles i posted above have a different hinge than the typical ranger shorty consoles of nearly the same design? and they have two brackets that hold them closed? that sounds like the full length explorer console to me.

they are two different kinds of arm rests on the shorty's. the one you posted, then another is shaped the same, but has just a vinyl coating and a piece of plastic on the bottom.

the metal plate repair will not work on the console you pictured. however, both armrests will interchanged.

i used the repair kit at work one day. had a mounty come in with it broken. good replacement, but if you have the pop out cup holders in the back of the arm rest, you have to ditch them.

FWIW… two types of Ex shorty consoles, one has an integral Arm Rest/Lid w/Cup Holders side by Side and one has the separate from lid but attached Arm Rest w/Cup Holders in-line (the better one IMHO).
Oh ya, there is a third Ex Console, it has a separated Arm Rest from the storage compartment and the Storage Compartment is a Bag setup not a closed in part of the console - Ex Sports had them.
The full length Console on an Explorer is different than the Ranger Full Length, the Ex will fit in the Ranger. The Ex FLC is a PITA to get out, screws come out but the Clips are the bitxh; they are hard to release and they break easy.
I believe the Arm Rest on the Ex Full Length Console in part of the Lid Assembly.

Bob has one in his Ranger and it is sweet w/all of the electronics working.

why won't the metal plate repair work on that explorer console? could i mod the expo console(the ones pictured) to use the repair? i can't believe that they are so different that that repair plate is completely useless in one but works for another.

is the mounting different between the fully padded ones that i showed, versus the vinyl on top/plastic on bottom console?
surely it uses the same plate right? (just covered in padding)

i don't have any of these handy in my local yards to mess around with.

the plate won't work because you have no place to mount the plate. the cloth one you posted isn't designed the same as the one the repair is for. the hinge portion is the same, but the mounting for the plate isn't.

there is a cut out area for the plate to go in. here are better pics of it.
