Center console rotted off the floor?

I figured I just broke the plastic or something. So I dragged all my crap out of the truck and disassembled the console. I couldn't believe it. All four of those little threaded studs the console's metal base is attached to rotted off the floor, leaving four holes to the outside under the truck. WTF.

I sealed the holes up and put some self-drilling screws through to secure it for now. I'm sure they'll pull out and I'll have to use some substantial bolts.

Yes. Those. All four were pulled out. A piece of the floor was welded to the bottom of each stud and it was rusted out all around.

I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary last time it was up on a lift but I might take a closer look now. I do live up north but so do 10,000 other cars and trucks without consoles ripping out.

those studs rip off VERY EASY thus why you should never lean on that console very hard EVER

Ah ok. I lean on the thing all the time. So I guess it was inevitable then. Once these cheap screws I have holding it now pull out (sooner than later), I'll put some big mamma bolts in there with fender washers to hold it in.

I agree those studs do break off easy. I had to get rid of mine to mount the explorer console and I used a pair of needle nose to break them off. I dont lean on mine and there was no rust.

I'm thinking then that the rust formed after they broke off. Since them breaking off just made 4 holes in the floor, it allowed the holes and the studs to rust.

Since my truck didn't come with that type console and I added it.

I have some huge bolts with washers and nuts holing mine down.

When I installed my shorty console I through bolted it with big fender washers since my truck never came with one. Mine is rock solid.

I did the same thing. Used 5/16 bolts and fender washers underneeth the body. Of course I didn't come factory with a floor mounted console, so I didn't have those studs in the first place.
