Fuel line quick disconnect on fuel filter that is stuck

First off, hopefully I found the correct thread to post this in and pray that it is active. I have tried a 3/8ths disconnect and 5/16th just to make sure. I have removed relay 5 from under the hood and let it run and then die to remove some pressure, but nothing seems to help. I twisted, turned and pulled like Thor himself out of anger, but it doesn't budge. Are there any steps I'm missing, wrong tool, or techniques? If it matters, I have the green tab on the fuel line, some say it's a spring and just be squeezed, but nope. I really don't wanna have to cut the line in any way. Any answers are appreciated. 2000 3.0 4.4 Ranger

There is a spring inside the fuel line part, you need to insert the correct size ring into the fitting and push it into the fitting, this expands the spring and releases it from the filters metal tube(in this case)
As you press the ring into the fitting it should just push off as you push

The tool needs to be tight on the metal tube so it can slide between the metal and the spring, expanding the spring outward to open it far enough to allow the "lip" on the fuel filter's metal tube to pass

I have never had good luck using the metal plier type removal tools

I have had good luck with the plastic rings, like these: https://www.lislecorp.com/specialty-...nnect-tool-set

Works like this: https://www.300cforums.com/cdn-cgi/i...3f8021bbb7.jpg

And you don't have clips on yours like this one?: http://hightidemarketing.co/wp-conte...views-size.jpg

Thank you much for your reply.

I had been using the plastic ones you could get from O rileys, and they just seemed too thick to work it's way underneath the spring. But I'll try the ones like in the diagram you've provided. Thanks again!
