Will I need upgraded alternator?

I have a sub that runs at 300w RMS with a 300w RMS amp. I plan to put 4 KC slimlites with 100W hallogens in front and 2 55 watt floods in the back. Obviously the floods will only be on for a few moments while backing up. Going to install a dual battery system with yellowtop or similar mounted in the bed.

I am still running the original alternator that is 9 years old with 115,000 miles. I am actually amazed that it just keeps on working!

If I upgrade to a 200 amp or similar alternator for this load will I need to upgrade the wires?

I read something about high power alternators not charging at idle RPM. This concerns me because offroading often involves driving slow for extended periods.

What is a solid brand? I find bad stuff about every alternator I read up on. Powermaster, tuff stuff, and so on. Don't want to break the bank I think about 300 bucks is the budget for the alternator.

Maybe I should just do the big 3?

my rockford fosgate amp can run at 550 x 1 watts RMS bridged and I have a stock alternator.

Skip outdated halogen lights and just go for LEDs. They draw less power, last longer, and they're brighter. I'm waiting for the auxiliary halogens i have on my truck to fail so I have an excuse to replace them with LEDs.

I was going to go with the halogens because they are cheap. Not cheap at all if they make your alternator go out and then have to hike out of the wilderness and pay to replace and alternator and battery. Or the money for a fancy alternator and the trouble of running thicker wire.

I run the higher amp 4x4 alternator on mine which you should already have in your truck and i have a taurus efan amp/sub and in dash touchscreen radio plus aftermarket fog lights installed and it doesn't seem to give any trouble you may have issues if all that stuff runs at the same time for extended periods but one extra set of lights plus the amp running shouldn't draw to much for the alternator. But the only way to know for sure is wire it up and slowly turn more stuff on and use a voltmeter as long as it maintains 14.4 volts at the battery with it running you shouldn't have any battery drain issues. Just test until you find the cutoff point. Thats the quickest way to find out if it can power all of that.
