timing chain/problems

ok so first off I have a 2003 ford ranger with the 4.0sohc 4x4. me and a buddy of mine had put on the cloyes timing chain/guide kit and it ran great for 3 months didint notice and loud rattle and on my way home from work my truck stalls out while driving and cuts all power and upon taking the engine apart again we realized that the front primary sprocket had broke a couple teeth out and the rear timing chain had actually snapped so we took the motor out again and were taking the heads off now and we noticed a few things allot of carbon build up in the pistons not baked to it per say but just freely floating in the cylinder and the block were the heads mates is completely black weird considering we cleaned up both the cylinder and heads before we put them back together now we figured that the valves would have contacted the pistons when i was driving but we couldnt find any evidence of that happening the valves and pistons dont have any marks and we flipped the heads over and poured wd40 were the valves sit and nothing leaked that we had seen at least. so now were trying to diagnose why the engine snapped the timing chain and gears we did find that some of the plastic guides had filled up the oil pick up tube and could have clogged it but i dindt notice the engine running hot at all or what could have caused that kit to of had broken so fast and yes we did put in new tensioners and oil pump the first time.
ok so now for the questions.
what could have caused the premature wear on the timing components/could we of installed something wrong/bad kit whatever you think could have happened?
why did the engine stall out obviously no timing but what would have caused the timing chains to break simultaneously?
what caused so much carbon build up in the cylinders and on the block mating surfaces in less than 500 miles? to note we did have problems installing the pcv valve in the valve cover after first instal no nubs to keep it in place so we put a new o ring and it just sat there.
would you guys say that the cloyes kit was a decent kit or should i go with another brand and if so where should i get it?
thanks for your help and sorry for all the bad spelling.
p.s. is was me and my budies first time doing something like this so its fully possible that we could have messed something up so go easy on us lol
