strobes

i own a set of four in the grill, but i came up with an exciting idea at work today, y not hook up the strobes from fire alarm systems, like at schools and walgreens, i was demoing a building today and pulled 12 off the wall, and left 4 in my truck, i hooked it up to the battery, and they work, just under their own motherboard, and i cant seem to be able to figure out how to just get the light, i have a strobe (brain) as i would put it that controls the lights, i just want brighter ones, any one know if i can convert these to be my strobes or if anyone knows where to get just the stobe bulbs??

Galls sells little strobes you drill a hole in a headlight for example and silicone it in. There the type you see in police car tailigihts and reverse lights sometimes.

Are they 120v? I believe if they are LED (which I imagine they are) you can convert them to a different voltage requirement by finding the correct Ohm resistor(s), don't hold me to that, I'm not to knowledgable on LEDs yet.

First things first... WHY. I've heard a lot of strange things people have done with fire alarms and a lot of strange things people have done with vehicles. But I've never seen anyone try to combine the two. And unless you have legal right to utilize flashing emergency lights, I would suggest not pursuing this any further.

Most commercial and residential alarm systems utilize a 12 volt NAC (Notification Appliance Circuit). Notification appliances being things like horn/strobes, sirens, and bells. Not all horn/strobes can separate the horn from the strobe without breaking it or chopping things up. Most new ones have separate contacts but older stuff does not.

These are not outdoor weatherproof devices. Putting it in your grill will last about a week before they fail.

it was funny as shizz to go to a party and pull over all my friends who were DUI.. they go poop in pants.

i ran 4x1 LED strips red blue red blue it was fun.. but yeah why white led?

Good. The fact that you did it at all says volumes about you. I'd like to thank you for being part of the reason people don't pull over for legitimate emergency vehicles trying to get to someone who is legitimately dying. People like you making a big joke out of it. Why should I pull over, its just some punk kid playing with his toys. And by the way, in most cases what you were doing is a FELONY, not "funny shizz". You also might want to revisit who you keep as friends if they drive drunk that often. Another big joke there too huh.

Well I came from a town of partying kids welcome to small mountain towns in CA. Now the fact you blame me for that is total BS. People pull over where i live and i would never of used them in daylight hours or on people i didnt know.. i used em alot at the dunes where its LEGAL.

and i used them with friends and while wheeling..

but hey whatever works =]

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realize drunk driving was the normal hip thing to do where you live. Sorry I killed your kid when I plowed into them drunk, but hey everyone is doing it. An entire town of morons. Its a wonder natural selection hasn't wiped this town off the map yet. Maybe you should try giving your friend a ride home rather than toying with them, unless you're also drunk while playing this game, which at this point wouldn't surprise me at all.

Let me give you a little hint since you're obviously new here on R-F. There are two things that I do not tolerate on R-F. Driving under the influence, and impersonating police/fire/ems/emergency vehicles with your truck. Ask anyone that's been here for a while how it goes for anyone that's started it once I stumble upon it.

Well both are legit things to be bothered by.. One i dont DUI i personally dont drink. Usually they figure out they are being retarded when i even falsely pulled them over.. and i can see the issues with impersonating and officer.. and well i was young and dumb but hey my new truck doesnt have it.. thats what i got an ex cop car for..

Wow, grow up a little. Good that the truck was totaled? I think that's going to far. Yeah it's not right pulling people over and you can get in tons of trouble, but it's not like he was pulling over random people or anything just scaring his buddies. If you were friends with the kid and in the car I bet you would have found it funny. People who don't pull over are idiots and deserve to get in more trouble, why would you even risk not pulling over?

I think people are funny, on the internet everyone is perfect, everyone fully abides by the law, no one makes any mistakes...

I'm not sure why you think it matters what road you were on. And what double-standard are you referring too? Can you explain that please?

Actually it would seem like I'm the last one in this thread with some growing up to do. But thanks. I'm glad the vehicle is gone. Whether it was totaled or sold or impounded, I don't really care as long as it is gone.

1- I wouldn't be in the car because I don't ride with drunk morons. In fact, I don't let drunk people drive to even get to that point. Even when I'm drunk, I don't let people leave that are drunk.

2- No I wouldn't find it funny at all. In fact, I would be on the phone with my dispatcher and the offending vehicle would be surrounded by the real police with real guns faster than you count the flashes.

3- Yes, they are idiots. And people that abuse and impersonate it legitimize the stupidity in their minds. But people do it ALL THE TIME. I should start putting my camera on my dash more often so you guys can see the crap I have to put up with to get from one end of my town to the other. You have NO IDEA.

Matt,(FireRanger) anytime someone starts a thread involving putting strobs, whelens, flashers, etc... on their truck and they are NOT a certified volunteer firefighter, just close the topic.

i wana put stobes on my truck but i dont want to spend the money or get in trouble with the law.. i understnad what fire ranger is saying, honeslty i would end up using them on the road so im forcing my selfe not to get them, i keep telling my selfe to save up for a locker not stupid strobes. i figured id share with fire ranger that there is a responsable crowed on r-f..

the main question is WHY.. why do you need strobes. i ask my selfe all the time. its just like getting a motorcycle, its not if your gona lay it down its when. just like these lights its not if im gona end up using them illegaly its when. so there for im not getting them :)

see ^ responsable :) lol

i also wondered if i could get away with it on really bad snow storms like the plow dirvers but im assuming they have some kind of permit..

On snow plows, those ligths are amber, or at least they should be. Whether a permit is required for amber lights varies by state.

Pretty much any aftermarket lighting is illegal for use on roadways in MA. You do need a permit for amber, blue, and red lighting, and I'm sure there are regulations on clear and green. Purple is limited to funeral processions only.

Chapter 90 Sec 7E of the Mass general laws regulates the use of red and blue to specific emergency vehicles and prohibits even mounting them unless duly authorized.

all the snow plows i have seen just have clear lights so they either have them in the corners (amber) or their headlights (clear) and their tail lights (red) or their back up lights (clear) never seen amber int he headlights or back up lights though.. the light bars they use are clear and amber though, or just amber..

if i do end up getting strobes they will be the crappy autozone ones.
