Steering wheel

Does anyone know of an aftermarket steering wheel that will accept the Ford airbag?? The leather-like cover on my wheel is worn away in two spots and it needs to be replaced.

Thanks.

John, you might know this: is it illegal to install a race wheel on a column formerly equipped with an airbag version? I want a Momo wheel baaaaaaaaadly.

Sorry, Tom, I sold my Ranger wheel a couple of months ago on eBay for $80. I installed an Explorer wheel with the EATC and radio controls in its place. It's in my avatar.

I have no idea, John. It may vary state-to-state, even if it's in federal law. There may be a fed statute, but like lighting, some states may enforce it or not. You need to find some "tuner" types in your area and ask them how they get by and if it's a potential problem.

What the police don't know doesn't hurt them. I cand find one of those carbon fiber covers that just slip on the wheel. And MOMO is the best. Ever.

It's not a matter of just the police: some states have mandatory yearly (or some other interval) motor vehicle inspections where such things can cause you to fail. If it's only a road enforcement matter in your state, that's cool -- but out here it's a state mandated inspection and sometimes they look at stuff like that.

In Maine you can't even register a vehicle if it was originally equiped w/ ABS and has any drivetrain modifications.. at all! That rule has made many off-roaders quite unhappy..
